The air raid still active right now is due to a couple of suspected kamikaze drones in #Kyiv oblast.
The Head of the region Oleksiy Kuleba says air defence is working, but one UAV is still thought to be active as they followed the river Dnipro towards the capital.
This looks like a photo from another world.
It's #Opytne, a small village on the southern outskirts of #Bakhmut.
There's still little change on the frontline here, though #Russia may be making ground in #Soledar after repeated attacks with #Wagner convicts.
This video caught some of the explosions on camera.
#Donetsk centre - this may be near the Hotel Viktoriya
Video just in from the scene of the explosion in central #Donetsk.
It is confirmed as the main street in the occupied city, Myru, and near the Hotel Viktoriya.
Now a photo of the Hotel Viktoriya in downtown #Donetsk.
I'm guessing this is not the design: the panels have been ripped off the front. If you look at the left edge of the building looks like some pretty serious damage.
Police warn residents (or try to wake them) to tell them it's a genuine warning and not to ignore the air raid sirens.

#Kyiv - drones seen in Vyshhorod and Troyeshchyna areas.
Explosion reported on the right bank of the capital. Not yet known if it is air defence taking down one of the drones or a strike on the city.
So far all indications in #Kyiv are that the explosions are the result of #Ukraine's defenders shooting down #Russia's drones.
Some reports that one landed in the yard of a house.
Looks like I can report another attack by #Ukraine, this time in #Luhansk region.
Locals are reporting up to a dozen big rockets landing in the town of #Alchevsk, around 40km west of Luhansk city.
Occupiers presume #HIMARS have paid a visit! #StopRussia
The remaining 'mopeds' droning over #Kyiv seem to have passed over the city.
UAVs last seen heading to #Hostomel + #Irpin areas, north west of the capital.
Nearly 700 more #Russia soldiers eliminated. The majority in the fighting on the eastern Frontline, though many die at the hands of pinpoint strikes on enemy bases.
The expected increase in drones and missiles can be seen today too.
Thank you Jeanne S for buying me a coffee! It's very much appreciated.
If you're feeling generous the link is on my bio and also earlier in this thread. Thanks 👍
The invaders used electronic warfare systems in #Zaporizhzhia oblast, presumably to try to stop #Ukraine partisans passing information to the army.
No use!
The jamming station was still located in the village Kinsky Rzdory, near #Polohy, and destroyed, along with KamAz trucks.
In #Volgograd region, an unknown object was found in a field.
Presumably it was airborne at one time. Now found in a field near Ilmensky. Locals don't know how it got there and heard no crashes.

One of #Russia's main military 'journalists' claims drone strikes last night hit #Ukraine's air defences, but there's zero proof of that.
Meanwhile Yury Podolyak says they are "preparing for the Mariupol scenario" in #Bakhmut as they gradually surround the town. #FortressBakhmut
Following on from the last tweet, this is a map of #Bakhmut from #Russia's bloggers
In fairness it's likely fairly accurate. The arrows make it look like strong advances, but it's taken weeks to get there.
For non RU/UA readers, blue circles are Bakhmut, #Opytne + #Klishchiivka
In peacetime many families, from #Ukraine + #Russia used to travel to Ukrainian #Crimea at New Year
Now Ukrainians can't go, but even Russians find heading to the Occupied territory less & less attractive. Paranoia, security checks result in 6 hour queues to cross Kerch bridge
For the second time in 2 days an emergency on board a Russian plane due to power banks.
This time there was a small fire forcing this Aurora flight in the far east of #Russia to make an emergency landing in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport
Two people were slightly hurt
Another "high ranking" Russian officer loses his life in #Donetsk.
"Colonel of Justice Yevgeny Rybakov worked for the military Investigative Committee"
No relaxation of the curfew for New Year in #Kyiv.
The metro will stop at 22:00 tomorrow evening, ground transport at 22:30 and everyone must be inside by 23:00
Police have said any stragglers who have correct documentation won't be dragged off to the police station or fined.
This time an oil tanker, which was being repaired in St Petersburg.
Smoke was seen rising from the "Arktika" today at the Kronstadt yard.
Casualties unknown.
#Ukraine says 3,000 of its military personnel are in enemy captivity.
A further 15,000 are described as "missing"
An (unscientific) survey on a mobile phone app in #Ukraine has revealed 59% are now celebrating Christmas on 25 December, rather than the 7 January date recognised by the Orthodox church.
Just 25% prefer the old date. However it's unlikely to take account of many older citizens.
Thanks to @PaxLusitanica who pointed out that the downed #Ukraine fighter I showed a pic of earlier was actually hit in April. Some others had pointed out new vegetation around the wreck.
Also, in #Kharkiv region, not #Donetsk as pro-RU channels claimed.
Thank you very much Stephen and Jack for buying me a coffee.
Keeping me going during these winter days and long nights documenting Russia's all too frequent attacks.

Eyewitnesses say the owner of this apartment set fire to a canister of gasoline inside his hope and threatened to "blow up everything."
Negotiators and rescue services have since arrived.
Another strike on Occupiers in #Zaporizhzhia oblast.
Earlier in the thread I wrote about a hit on electronic warfare systems at Kinski Rozdory. Now footage of a reported Russian base destroyed just 30km south in #Tytove.
Confusion in #Ukraine over a potential drone attack.
Some channels report #Russia's UAVs already being knocked down, but others report the original information was wrong and there is no imminent attack.
One question being asked in #Ukraine is what was the cargo #Russia was taking to #Belarus today.
Monitoring group Gayun saw 5 military Il-76MD planes landing at Machilishchi airfield within 5 hours and 6 in 14.
Such aircraft could carry in total around 1,500 troops between them
However in #Luhansk region, the feared Kraken unit claims to have liberated the village of #Novoselivske, just 3km from the state border with #Kharkiv.
They've released this graphic video including killed and captured🇷🇺
Defence Minister of #Ukraine@oleksiireznikov has warned Russians to flee while they can to avoid a call up to the army and war.
Earlier #Ukraine's Head of Military Intel, Kyrylo Budanov predicted #Russia would start a new wave of mobilisation on 5 January.
Different year, same story as #Russia's terrorism continued right through the new year, but lucky for you my daily threads continue to document the terror and war crimes.
It's already been a terrible start to the day
So much happened in the last hour of 2022 as attacks intensify over #Kyiv. Earlier there was another massive missile attack.
If you missed anything, check out yesterday's thread right here:
So we bid farewell to 2022
A year etched into the history books as the start of #Russia's illegal war in #Ukraine.
This is my daily thread number 311. Updating the news concerning the war in real time 24/7 each day.
Please share, spread the word and support!
I want to say thank you to everyone who's supported me in 2022, whether it's with words of encouragement, tip-offs, donations to my fundraiser or buying me a coffee.
I have tried to answer all comments and questions (tho some don't show up from time to time) and DMs remain open.
I didn't post much on the thread yesterday evening as it was quiet and remains so for the first 4.5 hours of Saturday in #Ukraine so far.
Here's the link for the start of yesterday's thread. If you missed anything you can scroll though:
There has still been the regular shelling during the night in #Ukraine
Two villages near #Zaporizhzhia were hit by #Russia's artillery. Also struck of course was #Nikopol, which I don't always mention in these threads but continues to be targeted daily.
It's Wednesday 28 December. Day 308 of the war since #Russia invaded #Ukraine.
The (relative) calm continues in much of the country, but on the frontline it remains fierce.
All the news, updated live, in one thread, right here. Spread the word!
So no major missile attacks in #Ukraine, nor loss of life in minor incidents again, but as I type there are air raid warnings across the country, so never any complacency,
If you need to catch up on yesterday's news, here's the usual link:
It's still loud, cold, muddy and extremely tough on the front lines. Many eyes have been watching the situation in #Luhansk oblast, where #Ukraine made some marginal gains towards #Kreminna.
However, the British Intelligence report says #Russia has brought in significant back up
In complete contrast to yesterday there is very little news to report.
This in itself has to be good news with not a single report of missiles or shelling so far and it's almost 6am in #Ukraine.
The de-Nazification/russification of #Ukraine continues.
In liberated #Izium 19 streets have changed names to shed Russian links. The town in #Kharkiv now honours Steve Jobs and Golda Meir instead. Meir, the 4th Prime Minister of Israel was born in #Kyiv.
