After the fall of the #Khiji Dynasty the rule of Indian subcontinent fell into the hands of Tughlug Dynasty in the year 1320.
The history of #Bahmani’s starts with #ZafarKhan who was a Nobleman in the service of Sultan #Muhammed Bin #Tughlug of Tughlug Dynasty.
5/ He tried to rebel in 1339 but his initial plot was unsuccessful. He later participated in the siege of #Gulbarga in 1346 following which he was made the #Governor of #Deccan and a year later he was made the commander of the army stationed at #Daulatabad.
6/ In 1347 another nobleman Nasir-ud-Din Ismail Shah rebelled against the #Tughlugs & this rebellion turned out to be successful. Nasir-ud-Din stepped down in favour of #ZafarKhan who established the Bahmani Sultanate & assumed the title of ‘#AlaudDin#Bahman#Shah’.
7/ This was the 1st time an Independent #Muslim Monarch was ruling over any part of the Deccan. Bahmani Sultanate rose to prominence within the reign of Muhammed Bin Tughlug of the #Delhi#Sultanate.
8/ Zaraf Khan established his seat at #Gulbarga (#Hasanabad). Assuming the throne his first campaign was against #Warangal and he annexed much of #Telangana region into his kingdom. Much of Bahmani Sultanate’s history is filled with constant wars with #Vijayanagara#Empire
9/ By the time of his death the kingdom stretched from north to south from the River #Wainganga to River #Krishna and east to west from #Bhongir to #Daulatabad. After reigning for 9 years, Ala-ud-Din Bahman shah passed away in year 1358.
10/ Muhammed Shah I continued the campaigns of his father and was at constant wars with the #Vijayanagara Empire in south & with #Warangal in east. Muhammed Shah reigned for 17 years and passed away in 1375. He was succeeded by his son Mujahid Shah as the 3rd Sultan.
11/ Mujahid Shah was assassinated & followed by his cousin #Dawood Shah who in turn was also assassinated & succeeded by his brother Muhammed Shah II.
12/ Muhammed Shah II’s rule lasted for 19 years. Many historians consider his reign as the most peaceful period of the #Bahmani’s. Muhammed Shah II passed away in 1397 & as per his will his son Ghiyas-ud-Din succeeded as 6th Sultan of Bahmani Sultanate.
13/ 1397 - The year of 4 Sultans.
Ghiyas-ud-Din was assassinated by #Taghalchin & was succeeded by his brother Shams-ud-Din Dawood II.
Dawood II was dethroned by his brother-in-law Feroz Shah in year 1397.
14/
Feroz Shah’s rule is among the most notable reigns from the #Bahmani Sultanate. He defeated Vijayanagara Empire twice during his reign & married the Daughter of Vijayanagar King DevavRaya I. After reigning for 25 Long years, #FerozShah abdicated in favour of his brother.
15/ Shihab-ud-Din Ahmed I moved the capital of the #Bahmani#Sultanate from #Gulbarga to #Bidar around the year 1425. Ahmed I’s reign lasted 14 years & with his death in 1436 his son Ala-ud-Din Ahmed II became 10th Sultan of Bahmani Sultanate.
16/ Ahmed II’s reign was also fairly stable & peaceful. He reigned for 22 Years. His son Humayun Shah succeeded him. During the reign of Humayun Shah the famous #MahmudGawan entered into the service of the Sultan. Mahmud Gawan was a skilled administrator & military general.
17/ Humayun Shah was initially followed by his elder son who passed away only 2 years into his reign. Later his younger son Muhammed III succeeded. In 1481 Mahmud Gawan was executed by Sultan Muhammed III, Sultan himself passed away within months of ordering Gawan’s execution.
18/ Shams-ud-Din Mahmood became the 14th Sultan in 1482. He would reign for more than 25 years but his rule was all but gradual decline of the Bahmani’s. Much of the authority now lay in the hands of Qasim Barid who became Prime Minister of the Kingdom
19/ In 1490 the Governor’s of Ahmednagar, Berar & Bijapur broke away from Bahmani Sultanate & declare Independence. Bidar itself was more or less now in the hands of Qasim Barid. Only Sultan Quli who was Tarafdar of Golkonda stayed loyal to Sultan Mahmood.
20/ Qasim Barid passed away in the year 1504 & now his son Amir Barid started to look over his fathers affairs & started to appoint puppet Sultan’s on the throne. Sultan Mahmood was succeeded by Ahmed IV as 15th Sultan of the Bahmani Sultanate.
21/ Sultan Ahmed IV & the next 3 sultans were all but puppet sultans in the hands of Amir Barid. Their reigns were short and barely lasted a decade from Sultan Mahmood's death.
22/ After 1518 #Golkonda became Independent under Sultan Quli Qutb-ul-Mulk.
After 1527 Bidar became an Independent entity of the Barid Shahi’s.
