Some breaking news, we are learning about repeated explosions in #Zaporizhzhia this morning.
S-300 anti aircraft missiles again being used by #Russia to attack civilians, but monitoring groups say one exploded just after launch, before it crossed the frontline.
It's noisy.
The weather has improved in #Ukraine. But though the ground may be drying out a little on the frontline, conditions are still incredibly tough.
Kamikaze #Shahed drones launched by #Russia and heading towards #Kyiv again.
The fear is not the drones themselves any longer, but the exposure of air defence positions and potentially diminishing supplies of defensive missiles.
#Ukraine shot down 19 out of 25 drones which attacked last night.
There were 24 attack UAVs and one reconnaissance drone. In #Kyiv all were shot down, but 10 buildings and some cars were damaged by the falling debris.
In #Odesa only 12 out of 15 were hit by air defence.
A lot of #Russia's equipment and soldiers were destroyed in the last 24 hours. A good day's hunting in many of the categories.
200,000 will be reached within 3 weeks, possibly 2 weeks.
and here's the daily British update, talking about some drone attacks that almost certainly were via #Ukraine (unlike the Kremlin, probably staged attack)
Across #Zaporizhzhia region they're inspecting and starting to repair the damage.
One man was injured. Governor Yuriy Malashko says #Russia doubled its attacks, with 112 air and artillery strikes in the day, and ZP city itself was hit with an S-300 missile. #StopRussiaNow
President @ZelenskyyUa has begun his speech at The Hague in the Netherlands.
He received a warm welcome and then said "We would all like to see another Vladimir in The Hague - one who deserves to be convicted of criminal acts."
A small piece of sabotage with someone setting fire to a relay-cabinet near #StPetersburg. But this only affects electric trains to nearby Beloostrov and though most were delayed it won't affect the war effort. Better luck next time😉🇺🇦
#Russia also claims to have shot down a drone in #Voronezh region early this morning.
This is thought to be the moment the UAV started its descent.
"Rolex" Peskov is pressed into action again to make more inflammatory statements as the world slowly realises #Russia probably staged drone "attacks" on the Kremlin
Putin's mouthpiece claims the US is behind "Kyiv's attack on the Kremlin, US attempts to disown it are ridiculous"
Big problem with drink driving in #Russia and drunkenness among the military. Maybe the two combined here...
Somehow this Bastion missile complex was driven into a fence on the #StPetersburg ring road.
It was heading to the Victory Parade, a rehearsal taking place today.
The Mayor of #Odesa has been arrested. It's an ongoing case and accusations stretch back years. There's always been a lot of distrust of Gennadiy Trukhanov in pro-Ukraine circles.
Also in #Krasnodar I wonder if we have more sabotage on the rails?
Suddenly "law enforcement agencies" closed the line between the #Severskaya and #Ilskaya stations. Services to Sochi and Perm' have been delayed for hours.
Explosions in #Kyiv. It seems to be air defence, but some residents in the #Irpin district say the lights went out.
Following the altercation in the debating chamber, #Russia's Olga Timofeeva was said to be giving an interview when #Ukraine MP Oleksandr Marikovskyi brought out🇺🇦
Another Russian snatched it away but Oleksandr wasn't finished...
Two fires in #Kyiv during the drone attack on #Ukraine's capital.
I'll let the Mayor of #Kyiv say everything (translation of Telegram posts)
Day 1201 of Europe's war.
But the pre-conflict hybrid war has already been waging worldwide for years. Hacking, election interference, sabotage - we're all targeted by Russia, even if we don't all realise it yet.
Ukraine can stop the war criminal with our help.
Welcome to the🧵
Maybe Sunday will bless Ukraine with a quiet day?
Saturday was another full-on journalistic stint, catching sleep when I could.
Kharkiv shattered overnight then a daytime attack on a kids' railway.
Operation Web 2.0 & a factory hit in Russia.
It's all ⬇️
1/2 Early this morning, just before the end of the previous thread I showed the Azot chemical plant in Tula region on fire.
Not long afterwards, Ukraine hit another facility, this time in Russia-controlled 🇺🇦
This is the Hydromash factory in Melitopol' in occupied Zaporizhzhia.
Day 1194 of Putin's war, though let's remember the initial invasion came 11 years ago.
Since February 2014, not once have western sanctions or military support come close to being enough to restore justice and defeat evil.
Welcome to THE daily 🇺🇦 thread for Sunday 1 June
A new day, a new season. Summer officially started, but nothing is likely to change just yet.
Y'day's thread had some great stories, but everything paled into insignificance when justy before midnight came news of a disaster in Russia's Bryansk region:
Another night of no sleep yet - dramatic action in Moscow.
Time to start another daily thread covering everything to do with Putin's disastrous 'operation' in Ukraine.
It's 5am in Russia and Ukraine, on Day 1190 of the war.
Let's begin...
I've still NEVER missed even one day since the start of Russia's full invasion.
But yesterday's thread ended up being one of the most lively. Another near 50-post story of the day, and if you like seeing "bavovna" in Russia, go right through to the end!
Good morning on Day 1176 of the war in Europe.
In my opinion, Ukraine should have won this war in 2022/23.
Effective leadership is based on good, decisive decisions. Sadly, the allies have never been decisive, preferring dithering and half measures.
Welcome to my daily thread:
What I mean by dithering is endless internal political battles in most countries to give adequate weapons. Scholz (Taurus), Biden (everything) the most obvious examples, though Joe was hampered by Congress and is way better than now
But it's always enough to survive, not to win
If you missed anything from yesterday, catch up with this link to the start of yesterday's thread. Scroll down to where you got to and complete your knowledge!
