/ 'Fraud Commission' relying on a Heritage Foundation database—but database review finds greatly exaggerated data bit.ly/2wOaJGd
/ The database includes 744 "cases" involving nearly 1100 individuals – but only 105 cases come from the last 5 years.
/ 32 cases are from the 1980s and 1990s. The database even includes a case from 1948 and one from 1972.
/ Over the period of time included in the database, over 3 BILLION votes were cast in federal elections alone.
/ In the billions of votes cast, spanning several decades, only 10 cases of in-person voter fraud were found.
/ That means it’s more likely an individual will be struck by lightning than commit in-person voter fraud.
/ The database includes only 41 cases of non-citizens registering, voting or attempting to vote, again spanning decades.
/ Which is particularly striking given Trump's comments that 3-5 million people voted illegally in 2016 alone. It’s an absurd claim.
/ In short, the database overstates the problem of fraud + its own cases disprove Trump's claims.
/ Hans von Spakovsky is not the only commissioner who is peddling exaggerated fraud claims.
/ Today, WaPo found 4 eligible NH voters whom Kobach claimed to be fraudulent. wapo.st/2wOdG9F
/ Kobach claims voter fraud b/c of out-of-state licenses—but most come from college towns. Student voting is legal bit.ly/2wO7zlI
