Have you heard about Zero-Downtime Upgrades (ZDU) for your #Database with #Oracle RHP ?
Hear of all about it here !
(1/19)
As part of the #Oracle RHP framework, ZDU provides an automated work flow that takes care of the upgrade process on your behalf.
(2/19)
ZDU automates 5 steps: Cloning, Switch Over, Upgrade, Sync Up & Switch Back.
(3/19)
ZDU provides a robust automated upgrade process, which allows for pause/resume if required, and fast rollback if the cases deems it necessary.
(4/19)
ZDU is fast & space-efficient, leveraging #Oracle #ACFS for fast #database cloning using snapshots. Full database copies are also supported.
(5/19)
ZDU leverages two key #Oracle Technologies, #GoldenGate & #DataGuard, leaving it to you to chose which suits better your current environment.
(6/19)
ZDU is fully automated, providing you end-to-end automation, automatic setup and teardown and hence no prior knowledge of either #GoldenGate or #DataGuard
(7/19)
Now, how does ZDU actually work ? Let's see a step by step process leveraging #Oracle #GoldenGate
(8/19)
Let's see the intial setup, you have your application connected to the #Oracle #Database to be upgraded, in this case, a 11.2.0.4 DB
(9/19)
With one single command "rhpctl zdtupgrade", leveraging the #Oracle RHP framework, ZDU automates all your upgrades and performs the following operations.
(10/19)
First, a clone of your database is created, this is done either leveraging #Oracle #ACFS and creating a #snapshot or creating a full copy.
(11/19)
Then, #Oracle #GoldenGate is started and replication between the source #Database and the clone is setup.
(12/19)
Following the process, sessions are drained from the source database and ZDU waits for #Oracle #GoldenGate replication to catch up.
(13/19)
Services on the source #Database are stopped and then started in the clone, the application is then switched over from the source to the clone.
(14/19)
The source #Database is now ready to be upgraded from 11.2.0.4 to 12.1 in this particular demo.
(15/19)
Once the upgrade is completed, #Oracle #GoldenGate replication is started from the clone database to the newly upgraded database
(16/19)
Now, sessions are drained from the clone database and ZDU waits for #Oracle #GoldenGate replication to catch up.
(17/19)
Services on the clone #Database are stopped and then started in the upgraded Database, the application is then switched over. And voila, ZDU has perfomed its magic.
(18/19)
Want to know more about Gold Image Management, #Oracle #RHP and ZDU ? Come to Ian Cookson's session "Managing Gold Images for Easy Patching & Upgrading with Oracle RHP" at UKOUG on Wednesday the 5th, room 1A at 3:20pm ! bit.ly/2Pa0FfY

Also in the case of not having #Oracle #GoldenGate, ZDU leverages #DataGuard, want to know how?
