🚨<Thread> 1/ Is Louise Mensch secretly using a separate account to harass other Twitter users? I decided to find out, and the answer is yes.
/ Some have suspected that Louise is using the account Counterchekist to harass users, and I wanted to use technology to uncover the truth.
/ Louise Mensch is a public figure with a relatively large following. If she is secretly using accounts to harass people, that is news.
/ First I examined the basics; when was Counterchekist's account created, and when did Louise start interacting with that account?
/ I Immediately noticed something strange. A few weeks after Counterchekist account was created, Louise was retweeting "his" tweets
/ Why would Louise be retweeting an unknown Twitter user with a new account several times a day? It is odd but not nearly proof.
/ Next I wanted to determine the gender of Counterchekist, so I used a free online gender analysis tool. hackerfactor.com/GenderGuesser.…
/ I grouped Counterchekist's tweets into paragraphs, and I created 8 different paragraphs with over 300 characters in each paragraph.
/ I then used the gender analysis tool to analyze each of the 8 paragraphs separately. The analysis tool predicted female 8 out of 8 tests.
/ The gender analysis tool is 60%-70% accurate. I used multiple samples to reduce the chance of errors. 8 out 8 is pretty convincing.
/ Now we know Counterchekist is a female, but that is still not concrete evidence. A female pretending to be a male is not proof.
/ I then searched Counterchekist's and Louise's tweets for similarities. I noticed they both use the word counselor alike.
/ Using similar words is not proof, but I was getting close. I decided the best way to uncover the truth was to use Stylometry software.
/ Stylometry is the study of linguistic style, and there are free software tools that can examine documents with high accuracy.
/ I used two different tools for my next round of tests. I used JGAAP: evllabs.com and Signature 1.0: philocomp.net/humanities/sig…
/ I analyzed dozens of Counterchekist's and Louise's tweets, and both software determined their writing styles were very similar.
/ Louise does her best to change up her writing style when tweeting under Counterchekist , but 8 out of 10 samples were very similar.
/ In closing, I am 90% certain Louise Mensch is also Counterchekist. I posted links to the tools I used so anyone can verify my work.
/ I welcome peer review, or any questions or comments. <end>
Here is more info about the software I used: techwell.com/techwell-insig… and also: bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/01/03/sof…
