This is all true, but also misses the mark in a critical way. Of course #NobelPrizes do distort science and misrepresent its history.
The #NobelPrizes are also so biased in favor of white men that it would be comical if it weren't so tragic and destructive.
But to once a year portray these as problems of #NobelPrize a massive mistake.
Problems with #NobelPrize are not singular to it - they are deeply entrenched, daily problems with science, and must be addressed as such.
The reason the #NobelPrize distorts science - celebrating "great men" instead of collective achievement is because science does this.
The #NobelPrize chronically devalues the achievements of scientists who aren't white men because science chronically devalues them.
So please criticize #NobelPrize - it deserves opprobrium - but for other 51 weeks of year turn your attention to science itself.
Because fixing science matters a bazillion times more than fixing the #NobelPrize.
