We desperately need to have a conversation about what tactics & means are *not* justified to stop this. Now. theguardian.com/environment/20…
We're soon going to see a big increase in what'll be called Eco-terrorism. The narrative, reality, demands it. How can they be unjustified?
How is this Q being ignored? When a small group grow fabulously wealthy from ecocide & mass extinction we facilitate, & won't or can't stop?
Obviously, the closer to runaway, irreversible loss we get, the more tactics are justified. But given top-down change on this scale..
..is historically unprecedented without outright revolt, the fact the system's so likely to continue until then makes it justifiable sooner.
If one concludes the system will not or cannot change, then there are few targeted acts that wouldn't be justifiable given the size of risk.
Then there is the very real problem of timing runaway feedback loops, including unknown unknowns. When does change become irreversible?
We could see melting permafrost release so much methane that we jump two degrees in a few years for all we know. IMO, we are close enough..
..to the brink of runaway impacts, already at a point where future impacts are locked in, whatever we do now, that one simply has to..
..conclude the system that got us here has run out of time to have any remaining right to dictate solutions it has consistently blocked.
It's failed. We are at the brink, and it hasn't even tackled low hanging fruit like ship freight and fossil fuel subsidies. Easy shit.
We have to accept the tipping point of global climate catastrophe is closer than the tipping point within power to change. It just can't.
And that's a terrifying conclusion when it comes to the moral argument about our duty to save our planet, our species. Unprecedented scale.
Two thirds of wild animals dead by 2020. And most people don't even realise it. Or if they do, can't, or won't, grapple with the reality.
The diffuse nature of the crime acts as cover for individuals to escape justice, no matter how complicit they are.
That has to change. The scale of the consequences are such that even diffused amongst tens of thousands of individuals, they demand justice.
Lobbyists, CEOs, economists, politicians, anyone high in the corrupt fossil fuel system must become a pariah, or they'll become a target.
A small group can't destroy communities around the globe, hoard ever more obscene wealth, create a mass extinction, & expect to remain safe.
