When I was 20, I walked into a Dunkin’ Donuts bathroom in Manhattan, and while I was standing at a urinal, a man came out of a stall and started masturbating in front of me. I didn’t even report it to the employees. I felt like “yeah, fuck me for using that bathroom.”
This isn’t to say I was traumatized or I know what women go through on a daily basis. I told jokes about the experience that night. But now I think about the fact that I didn’t even warn the cashiers because I was embarrassed... I didn’t report it because why would I?
So I don’t like the argument that if something were real it would have a formal police report to back it up. I don’t even report when my mail gets stolen. I’m just like “only in New York!”
Someone asked why I didn’t “kick him in the dick.” There was another dude there who was clearly with him. They both had a foot and 100 pounds on me. I played football for years and am a large man but was still scared. Fuck that argument too.
People who think women should fight back when they’re assaulted also must think the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. You’re morons. Please don’t buy a gun if you think either of these things.
