So on this thread on Music Cities, I should make clear my scepticism is not directed towards any particular Music Office, which are mostly still in their infancy and working things out on the ground.
Mainly, it's towards a document being promoted as "fast policy"* by the global recording industry's trade body, as a route to getting industry's voice heard by planners and legislators.

And whenever we hear the word "music community", we should remember @MartinCloonan and @john1306 comments on "music industry" (i.e. record industry) and ask why it isn't being used in the plural... cambridge.org/core/journals/…

So #musicleeds is finishing up. Was in Leeds yesterday, shame I couldn’t stay. Looks like a great day which, in the shadow of the ECoC withdrawal debacle, was a real achievement to make happen.
But with “Music Cities” again being discussed, I want to sound a note of caution. To make the case for some critical reflection. And perhaps to read some of the findings from the last two decades (plus!) of “Creative City” experiences.
So – I don’t normally do this – but here’s a #thread alert.

And hey, executive summary: more research needed. So maybe others can pitch in on that.
