Over at the House Judiciary Committee, where DAG Rod Rosenstein will be testifying (he's over at the far right, the one all those photogs are taking pics of). Stay tuned.
Rosenstein is sworn in, here we go
DAG Rosenstein in his opening remarks, speaking about DOJ employees: "With very few exceptions, they are honorable, principled and trustworthy."
Goodlatte starts by asking if Clinton email probe could be reopened if there's a finding it was tainted for political purposes. Rosenstein says they're waiting for the inspector general to finish its review and then will look at findings.
Nadler asks if, given requirements for appointment of special counsel, DOJ has done initial assessment of Comey's handling of Clinton emails. Rosenstein says he won't comment on any investigation.
DAG Rod Rosenstein says he has not determined any "good cause" to fire special counsel Robert Mueller (a requirement for termination of a special counsel). Rosenstein is the only DOJ official with authority to fire Mueller, given AG Sessions' recusal.
Rosenstein said he consults with Mueller and his office about the scope of their investigation, says they are acting within scope of authority. "I know what he's doing."
Asked if the personal finances of the Trump family fall within scope of Mueller probe, Rosenstein says he's not going to discuss details about the investigation.
Asked if donations to Clinton and Obama by special counsel office members creates appearance of impropriety, Rosenstein said he's not aware of any impropriety/violation of rules within the special counsel's office.
Asked again about contributions by members of Mueller's team to Democrats, Rosenstein says there's a difference between political affiliation and bias. Mueller understands that and is running the office appropriately, Rosenstein says.
Rep. Jackson Lee asks what protections are in place for Mueller, citing Saturday Night Massacre under Nixon. Rosenstein: "I won't take any action unless he's violated his duties.'
Rosenstein, on whether Trump has asked him to remove Mueller: "Congressman, I am not going to be discussing my communications with the president. But I can tell you that nobody has communicated to me a desire to remove Robert Mueller."
Rep. Cohen on Robert Mueller: "Everybody respects that man in this country." Rep. Gohmert interjects: "I didn't. I don't."
Rep. Johnson: Are you afraid of Presdient Trump firing you? Rosenstein; "No I am not"
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is standing by Mueller: "I can assure you that the special counsel is conducting himself consistently with our understanding about the scope of his investigation." buzzfeed.com/zoetillman/rod…
