A lot of people are getting lost in the weeds about this Net Neutrality thing, so here is a good article that I like...
forbes.com/sites/joshstei…
People keep forgetting that building infrastructure and bandwidth costs money. The internet was NEVER free, even though many tried to believe that it was.
Consider: (1) You go to a store & buy 1 candy bar for $3. (2) I go to the same store and demand paying $3 for a cart filled to overflowing with candy bars. That is NOT a good business model. In one sense, this is NN.
I purchase electricity from the local electric company that is essentially a monopoly regulated by the state. My monthly bill is based upon how much I use.
Why should Aunt Tilly, who only uses email & checks the news, be forced to subsidize Billy Joe who watches 2 Netflix movies every day and streams a lot of other info?
Even the phone companies are allowed to charge different amounts depending upon the minutes you need & other services you want.
Yes, some regulation are probably needed for the internet, BUT don't impose regulations that stifle innovation & competition. Also, don't put in place regulations that increase the barriers to entry for competitors!!!
We always must keep in mind that it costs money to build & maintain the various internet components and that the stakeholders need a way to make a reasonable profit. Encourage free market competition...
