I’ve been a Software engineer, senior dev, team lead, engineering manager for over 20 years. I now facilitate an eng team of over 100. This philosophy I instill into every dev — it’s everyone’s duty to teach each other, as well as be constantly learning.
That’s what makes the individual, the team, and the company strong. The job of every engineer is to transfer what they know to others, and make everyone better as a result.
There’s none of this senior dev/junior dev bullshit that has been seen in that truly repugnant tweet. If a more junior person makes a mistake, we teach them and they learn from that mistake.
This isn’t about a balance sheet of value, it’s about making the team and company better and stronger over time, and continuously so.
