MAJOR BREAKING NEWS:
If Bannon is right, everything Manafort, Jared, and Don Jr. told the public and investigators about the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting was false. They described it as a failure they somewhat angrily ended early. Bannon says it led to a same-day meeting with the candidate himself.
I understand people mistrusting Bannon, but he said this to Wolff while he was in the White House—so, at a time it was a statement against interest (not because it burned Jared and Don—who he hated and hates—but because it would permanently burn Bannon's relationship with Trump).
Needless to say, if Bannon's right it also means that Trump repeatedly and flagrantly lied about not having anything to do with Russians or Russia during the campaign, as in fact he would have met face-to-face with people he knew at the time were Kremlin agents. But there's more:
If Bannon is right about the Trump Tower meeting, Trump writing Don's statement regarding the meeting is even *more* clearly (than it already is) Witness Tampering—as of course one reason for Trump writing that statement would have been to hide his own involvement in the meeting.
Bannon risked everything to make that statement to Wolff—which makes it more rather than less likely to be true. Essentially, he had to know he was *permanently and irreparably* ending his relationship with Trump by way of significantly advancing the impeachment case against him.
Remember, too, when Congress tried to get Don to talk about whether he told his dad about the 2016 Trump Tower meeting, Don asserted one of the most preposterous attorney-client privilege claims in political history—saying when an attorney is present in a room, there's privilege.
On the day of the June '16 Trump Tower meeting Trump was a) in Trump Tower, b) meeting with the same Trump aides who went to the meeting, c) on the very same subject as the meeting—dirt on Hillary (Trump was planning a speech on it). So Don not telling dad never made *any* sense.
