/ Welcome to Monday in the independent republic of Brexitlandia
/ As is customary the Government spent the weekend being clear they did not know whether they want the UK to be in a customs union or not 🙄
/ @MichelBarnier is coming to London today and the sheer panic of him bringing one of his slides showing the logic of the UK redlines has created pandemonium 😱😱😱😱
/ Paragraph 49 of the phase 1 report says the UK will align with SM and CU rules to prevent a hard border in Ireland. That would suggest a CU of some sort even on a temporary (but probably permanent) basis 🤔
/ The GOV may even go for a permanent solution. That probably explains why they are planning the possibility of being able to fast track a CU
/ Especially as GOV fought off. A Labour amendment to make that power time limited. So the or a customs union it is then 👏👏👏
/ Not least because it stops supermarkets running out of fresh produce after 3 days 🍌🍊🍅
/ Especially as post the referendum not all the fruit and veg grown at home is being picked heraldscotland.com/news/15918694.…?amp=1
/ I mean GOV would not be so stupid as to leave a customs union without doing any analysis as to its consequences would it? 🤥
/ Luckily Minister of Doom @SuellaFernandes is on the case and says there are many "analyses" theyworkforyou.com/debates/?id=20…
/ Indeed there are - and they all says things will be bad if we do not have a customs agreement. Perhaps @SuellaFernandes could publish the ones she is relying on and explain how they also safeguard the GFA.
/ Otherwise the unpersuaded may conclude @SuellaFernandes is lying to the public which ordinarily would not do but these days seems to be a key competency in Cabinet 🤥🤥🤥
/ We know this because perennial bullshit merchants @michaelgove and @BorisJohnson 🤡say there should be no customs union again pointing to their future careers as evidence for why the GFA should be breached and less food should be made available 🙏🙏🙏
/ Here is their view telegraph.co.uk/politics/2018/…
/ @AmberRuddHR indicated there may be a customs union over the weekend. But also argued there can be no hard border in Ireland, frictionless trade with the EU and the UK must be free to do its own trade deals. Those 3 goals are incompatible unless you live in a cakeist world
/ The Maybot getting fed up with all these mixed messages wanted to be "very clear" once and for all. On Friday she indicated there may be a customs union but by yesterday said there would not be one 😬😬😬theguardian.com/politics/2018/…
/ If semantics are the issue, I for one could live with the arrangement being called Boris' Bumfluff Bounty if the practical outcome is a customs union 😇
/ It all seems very odd when the GOV impact assessment last week said the gains from doing our own trade deals would not offset the losses from leaving the current arrangements. But then GOV policy is not based on evidence 🤤
/ After all 50% of our trade is with the EU and 20% via EU trade deals. No-one in GOV has explained what uplift in trade we can achieve only be leaving. They just want the freedom to do the deals
/ But that "freedom" comes at a price. Some may wonder whether the loss of bargaining power in reclaiming sovereignty is really reclaiming sovereignty only to give it away again for less 🤔politico.eu/article/eu-tra…
/ Still no one said this would be easy
/ Except of course they did. Repeatedly 🤥amp.theguardian.com/politics/2017/…
/ Some have started to think maybe the public is being lied to. Some are more direct in articulating their thinking
/ Which probably explains why those serial liars who run the country keep trying to apportion blame amp.theguardian.com/politics/2018/…
/ It is a shame @Jacob_Rees_Mogg keeps attacking the civil service even though he will not have seen the analysis he criticises because he is not a minister. He seems like such a fine upstanding fellow 😂😂😂
/ Still the damage is being done to such an extent that not even our neighbours think it fair to extradite fraudsters back to the UK even though they should be right at home amp.theguardian.com/politics/2018/…
/ Maybe the penny will drop that actually being in the SM and the/a CU is quite a good thing and certainly better than what the GOV thinks it can achieve 🤔
/ Here is Cretinus Minimus @WalkerWorcester making the case for the benefits of a single electricity market in Ireland irishtimes.com/business/energ…
/ Now if only @WalkerWorcester could engage his pea brain and think how leaving the SM will affect the availability of imported energy at reasonable prices given it will turn the EU into a competitor on our doorstep 🤤
/ But @37paday it is not about economics it is about sovereignty I hear you roar. 🦁= 🐭
/ Well without putting too fine a point on it that is 🐎💩. Here are the Vote Leave campaign messages voteleavetakecontrol.org/why_vote_leave…
/ It was about saving money, controlling pesky forriners and doing our own trade deals to make us better off and raise our standard of living. If that is not about economics then I am a 🦄
