Okay news media. Let me save you some breath. This is not rocket science. Families matter. Good parents matter. Close communities matter. Cultivate those and add rules and stop worrying whether your kids like you. Those things will take is a long way.
Stop your outrage and start looking at your own lives. Help out. Be neighborly. Volunteer and make a difference.
If you're a parent- there is no such thing as it's my password Mom. No locked bedroom doors. Be around. Eat meals together. Your kids business is your business-- all of it.
Some humans are not right from the get go. Some parents do everything right and stuff still happens. I know. But many many bad things can be avoided with some of these basics. It's a marathon- parenting. There's no room for whining
Be responsible and if you don't have the skills, the tools, the support-- get it. No man is an island. Most of these shootings are avoidable. Get real about what it takes to raise solid kids. It's brutal. I know. I've been there.
Stop the hand wringing and start building healthy families and communities where you hold yourselves and other accountable and support each other when the going gets tough or stuff falls through the cracks.
Get off your phones. Spend time with each other. Make sure there's eye contact. Make promises and keep them. Make rules and enforce them. Raising kids requires all you've got to give so if you don't know that, don't enter in.
This is a problem that speaks to the way we weave the fabric of our society. No law will solve it. Guns are not the root. It's US. We are responsible. So get to it. Take a good look at yourselves and then look around you. The buck starts with you.
And I just saw someone blame "most of this" on SSRIs and big pharma. Do not make comments like that here.
