Look at the facial cosmetic surgery procedures that "oppressed" TIMs get covered by insurance. Compare that to the brutal reality for other Americans, including veterans and amputees, who can't get the basics.
Here's a list of the cosmetic procedures with associated costs. And another reminder of what other Americans get...
What's sick is that there are many women with facial features that make them miserable and give them dysphoria (noses, chins, scars, birthmarks, hair thinning, etc) and THEY can't get any of these procedures covered. "Cis privilege" indeed.
Women who had breast cancer and have a government plan or medicaid might not even be covered for breast reconstruction. But for males, getting breast augmentation surgery is deemed "medically necessary."
The "medically necessary" rule is really a boon for TIMs. Because their diagnosis is completely subjective and self-defined, they basically can have whatever they desire declared "medically necessary," including hair transplants and electrolysis for many plans.
Yes, folks, get a physician to say that you NEED these cosmetic procedures, and you can have them! (Unless of course, you aren't a TIM):
Blepharoplasty
Body contouring procedures (e.g., liposuction, lipectomy)
Botox injections
Calf implantation
Cervicoplasty/platysmaplasty.....
Chin augmentation (genioplasty, mentoplasty)
Collagen injections
Dermabrasions/chemical peels
Excision of redundant skin
Facial masculinizing/feminizing surgeries (e.g., facial bone reduction)
Facial prosthesis (e.g. nasal, orbital)
Forehead reduction.....
Injectable dermal fillers (e.g., Sculptra, Radiesse)
Lip reduction/enhancement
Orthognathic procedures
Otoplasty
Rhinoplasty
Rhytidectomy
Trachea shave/reduction thyroid chondroplasty
Let me just say that there are thousands of elderly Americans who are homebound but have no home health services, and have to hope some charity will bring them food.
Let me also say that there are thousands of poor Americans who don't have transportation to get to the doctor, or to dialysis. (And yes, I know patients who have declined dialysis because they have NO WAY TO GET TO THE DIALYSIS CENTER.)
Healthcare dollars are limited. Who is getting those precious dollars? Not the poor, not the elderly, not the middle class, not women. It makes my head spin to see how fast society has bent over backwards for TIMs while letting others die. All while pretending to be liberal.
