I know, its trendy these days for liberal pundits & beltway insiders to spin tidy little narratives shifting blame for the systemic problems we face to the feet of a single person;

Woah, America is Racist now: TRUMP

Mass Deportations: TRUMP

Ignoring Climate Change: TRUMP

I get it. After all, there is an angry mob out there. The pretentious “front-row-kids” running our government don’t want to answer to the uncouth rabble for their failures.

Its all very convenient to deflect all of the blame for everything at some mystical, outside-force:

“It was Trump.”

“It was The Russians.”

“It was Bernie Sanders.”

“It was everyones else’s fault but ours!”

And so it is with gun control. It is basically understood that the Republican Party is the NRA; and that the NRA doesnt represent gun owners. The NRA represents Gun Manufacturers.

If the NRA represented gun owners they wouldnt be blocking common-sense, massively popular gun reform like background checks, closing gun show loopholes, banning assault weapons.

In fact, the NRA will do long-term damage to gun owners rights to protect corporate profits! 💵

The NRA and Republicans will put short term corporate profits above peoples lives everytime.

Ok, so what abou the Democrats? They must be the good guys? Well, not exactly.

It failed 40 - 60, with 15 Democrats voting against it:

It failed 54 - 46, with 5 Democrats voting against it:
Baucus

Heitkamp

In 2005, S. 397 Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) passed which protects firearms manufacturers & dealers from being held liable when crimes have been committed with their products.

It passed in the Senate 65 - 31, with 14 Democrats voting for it:

Conspicuously, no Federal Assault Weapons Ban was passed after Democrats won HUGE majorities in 2008...but after the 2010 losses, golly gee, we dont have the votes. Odd.

Ok, but what about the states? What about states Democrats control?

Democrats control both the State Legislature and Governorships in 8 States: California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Rhode Island, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, & Connecticut

Of these states, ONLY 4 out of 9 have an Assault Weapons Ban: CA, NJ, CT, NY

Democrats control State Legislatures in 6 States: Nevada, New Mexico, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, & Vermont

Of these states, only 2 out of 6 have an Assault Weapons Ban: MD & MA

Democrats control Governorships and/or partially control State Legislatures in 9 States: Virginia, Maine, Montana, Minnesota, Louisiana, Colorado, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, & Alaska

Of these states, 0 of these 9 states have an Assault Weapons Ban: 🙁

Why haven’t the Democrats passed an Assault Weapons Ban in Washington State? They control all branches of government. There would be no excuse.
