Ah, that email which many EU citizens got today from the Home Office.....
-- Nothing about the fact that 'settled status' so-called will take away all our rights on 29 March 2019 and that we will have to apply for less rights with less protections under the new scheme
-- Nothing about the fact that the Home Office's error rate currently stands at 10%. When 3.6 million EU citizens (plus all those who do not live in the UK but are entitled to apply...) submit their applications, this error rate will soar to extraordinary proportions
-- Nothing about the fact that an error in your file or your submission could have dire consequences
-- Nothing about the fact that the UK govt intends to use HMRC/DWP etc. databases for records and proof of our continuous 5 year stay in the country even though these electronic databases are not very reliable, and do not stretch very far back in time
-- Nothing about the fact that if our application is rejected on the basis of erroneous data, an exemption to the data protection bill will, if it goes through, take away our right to see the data the Home Office holds about us, preventing us from mounting an appeal
Remember they said, nay, they promised nothing would change for EU citizens in the UK...
