While pro-site blocking advocates try to dismiss it, here’s the reality: a huge number of Canadians voiced opposition to website blocking. Of course, opposition to the website blocking plan is about far more than the 100,000+ Canadians who spoke out against it. While most supporters either offer anti-piracy generalities or malign the critics, there are dozens of detailed, authoritative critical submissions. (2/5)

The Bell website blocking coalition and its supporters argued that the proposal was consistent with other countries and did not implicate freedom of expression, Internet competition & access, and net neutrality. All positions have now been effectively debunked. (1/5)

#Turkish Intel-Investigative Bodies also have the list of all Diplomatic & Private Saudi & “other significant’ Planes in #Turkey for the period of ‘interest.’ Many of the Target airports have their own security cameras & related evidence.

1-My Thread for the day:
Canadian Media Convergence and the dangers to democracy.
2- In the early 2000’s, some might remember, Canadian media landscape was a lot different. You could open a newspaper and get opinions from the left and the right. Same goes for TV news outlets. In 2018, the picture is a lot different and it’s bad for democracy.
3- One of the fallouts was to push the election of a leader that wasn’t based on competence, but rather because of his image. Leaders of most political parties are now following along the same line.

Ok, honourary Becky, let me break this down for you.

It's absurd to claim that modern day Canada is a racial utopia where everyone is equal. This can be seen in our education system, justice system, and the work force.

Denying this prevents us from addressing these very serious issues and only leads to continued marginalization.
In fact, it was only in the past few years when activists were able to confirm the impact of racist policies.

For example - In every Canadian municipality, Black and Indigenous people were disproportionately carded and charged for cannabis possession

Hi Sheila, thanks for bringing this up, it's an interesting point. It's obviously an Indigenous story, no question there. However, I think to call it an Indigenous film erodes our narrative sovereignty and undermines Indigenous screen storytellers. Here's why. 1/19
Film authorship, has been, rightly or wrongly, attributed to the director for decades. Now I would agree, there are some issues with this, but that's how it's been generally defined for a few reasons. 2/19
Filmmaking typically requires a large team, but the nexus for creative decisions is the director. Producers, writers, editors, cinematographers, etc all create the film, but typically the decisions come from the director. Not always, but usually. 3/19

To understand anything, you must first understand that there is no such thing as a private company that builds telcoms infrastructure with its own money. Every telcoms company is the recipient of massive public subsidies.
That's because any company that had to buy the right to every foot of sidewalk, every mile of transnational railtrack-trench, piecemeal, on the open market, would spend a trillion dollars and still never be done.
