For Iran, it means regime change. They've already had to pull out of their currency reserve just to pay for their security forces. MOST of the ongoing strikes are people in nationalized industries that haven't been paid in MONTHS. The fall of the Rial is the fall of the mullahs
when I talk about the recapitalizing of banks and the mass printing of the rials, that's because the protesters are intentionally draining banks of money by withdrawing in mass. This creates further bank runs and creates a damned if you do damned if you don't situation.
If the Mullahs let the banks fail, that's the end of their economy, period. Because the Mullahs are so deeply tied to the banks via the government and their own corruption, the government will literally lose its ability to pay themselves and cease to function.
They chose instead, apparently, to recapitalize the banks via the mass printing of money, so protesters could withdraw their money and not collapse the banks. This has caused hyperinflation and crashed the value of the rial.
For the rest of the region, well, this means a few things. First, you knock Iran out economically, and terrorist groups worldwide lose a LOT of their backing. That's a big plus. Second, the fall of the Mullahs would be the best thing to happen for the Iranian people and economy
Surrounding nations like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc would be able to flood in with investments into Iran's natural resources, not just their oil which is already heavily exploited, but their heavy metals and such as well.
For the region, losing one of the main exporters of terrorism and an economy rebounding in such a way will pay dividends both in regional stability and the regional economy. I don't want to call it an Arab Renaissance, buuuuuut that's the direction it would trend towards. /end
