BREAKING: Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the Justice Department for info on the FBI's prepublication review & other records on fired FBI Director James @Comey’s book, “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership.” (1/8)
JW filed suit after DOJ failed produce any records in response to a 3/16/18 FOIA request for all records of communications between the FBI & Comey relating to his book and all records relating to the requirement for prepublication review by the FBI. (2/8)
Comey reportedly received an advance of over $2 million for his book that is set for publication today. Former FBI agents & officials writing books on their tenure are customarily required to submit the entire transcript for pre-publication review. (3/8)
This is the second JW lawsuit on the Comey book. After Comey signed on to write his book in August 2017, JW sent a FOIA seeking FBI docs re: book deal & coordination on his testimony w/ the Senate – & we filed a FOIA lawsuit w/ DOJ in January 2017. (4/8)
On @ABC on 3/15/18, Comey admitted to leaking convos w/ Trump to get a special counsel appointed: “I gave that unclassified memo to my (friend), who was also acting as my lawyer, but this wasn’t a lawyer task, and asked him to give it to a reporter.” (5/8)
JW also has other lawsuits related to Comey & the FBI, including seeking access to the so-called Comey Memos, info on the Comey Memos metadata, docs re: the handling of classified info signed by Comey, lawsuits with @DailyCaller re: Comey, & more. (6/8)
