So covering the Neo-Nazi march in #Newnan I felt conflicted as my press pass got me face to face w/Nazis while protesters were kept at least 50 yards away. I eventually had to shut my camera off because I couldn't amply their hate without challenging it
It's not the protestors who bring attention to the Nazis. It's the press. Media outlets gave microphones and cameras to some of the most hateful people in our nation -- completely unchallenged. Antifa didn't do that. The Media did.
We, the media, were the tools of Nazis. The only people who could get in were those of us who had credentials. The Nazi with the microphone checked every one of us. They didn’t care that we were there because we pose no threat. We were their tools.
So in this ridiculous ongoing argument about deplatforming, it is never Antifi that brings attention to and amplifies the voices of Nazis. It’s us in the media. And we need to stop 🛑
Would we shove a microphone and a camera in the face of an ISIS fighter? Would we give them free airtime to recruit? These Nazis are no different. Deplatform them from our media outlets and maybe Antifi wouldn’t have to do it in the streets.
Treat Nazis like a deadly pathogen. Be aware of it. Warn your audience of it. Be prepared for worst-case scenarios. But don’t go and interview it or else you become guilty of spreading it.
And if you must interview, challenge every word and make them look like the hate-filled idiots they actually are.
And I completely understand Antifa. Completely. I felt disgusted being in the presence of actual Nazis preaching hate and not smashing them for the culture.

But I’m sure my wife appreciates me having a moment of reflection instead of violence.
Bottom line: it’s immoral to standby and watch Nazis spread their poison. The moral thing to do is shut that shit down.
