Yesterday I participated in a Senate staff briefing on cryptography policy, organized by my pals at @EFF. Writeup here: eff.org/deeplinks/2018…
By the way, it's easy to make fun of Congress as being clueless about tech stuff, but I've found the staffers who work tech issues to be almost universally impressively well informed and engaged. And this is true regardless of party affiliation, etc.
"Why bother talking to congressional staff about tech? It's pointless", says cynical Twitter.

Two answers:
- my personal experience says you're wrong.
- but if enough people believe you, you become right.

So forgive me if I chose my experience over your cynicism.
I get feeling disempowered by the political process and wanting to express that. But when your expression of dissatisfaction turns to nihilistically mocking those who are putting in the energy you lack, you can, with all due respect, go straight to hell.
