"There's really not a lot of time" in order to hold the summit on June 12, according to the official. "A certain amount of dialogue" would need to take place at the working level.
"Yes we do have assurances" from #China it will continue to enforce sanctions on the #DPRK, according to the senior @WhiteHouse official. "All countries, all UN members must abide by those resolutions."
"For it to be a success denuclearization has to be the end state, it has to be the outcome" of dialogue, according to the US official briefing reporters at the @WhiteHouse.
"We had dialogue just below the president's level," replies official to question of whether @POTUS called @moonriver365 and @AbeShinzo.
"The president wants to give every opportunity to a peaceful resolution of this crisis," says senior @WhiteHouse official. "The president has been willing to keep the door open from the beginning."
"President Trump is willing to pursue diplomacy as far as it can possibly be pursued," adds the official responding to my question about a split in the administration between those who favor diplomacy and hardliners who say #DPRK can never be trusted to abide by any deal.
"We simply couldn't get them to pick up the phone at a certain point," says the official on @POTUS decision to call off the summit.
