The push from unions like @afscmecouncil13 and @UFCWLocal1776KS to keep people with disabilities institutionalized in #PolkCenterStrong and #WhiteHaven is disappointing, but not new.

There is shockingly little written about the fact that organized labor has been one of the biggest barriers to deinstitutionalization. Sourcing this piece involved reading like 30 years of AFSCME policy briefs and newsletters. There wasn’t a book I could turn to.

Problem: Some kids can’t or won’t say “trick-or-treat.”

Actually inclusive solution: Hold the treat bowl out unconditionally. Is the point of giving out treats to make kids happy, or is the point to make them do a dog trick for you first? Think about it.
Problem: Older kids or adults trick-or-treating. Should they be doing that? It’s weird! That kid isn’t wearing a costume!

Actually inclusive solution: Instead of expecting justification, just relax and give out the dang candy. Who died and made you the Halloween police?

I probably shouldn’t be pitching right now, but the fact that Greta Thunberg doesn’t put a ton of effort into smiling or putting other people at ease, and that people like that about her, makes me feel really validated as an #ActuallyAutistic woman.
I have somewhat flat affect. Or, as I like to call it, clinically-significant resting bitch face. A lot of autistic people do.

The thing is, when you’re an autistic woman (or someone generally interpreted as a woman), it’s a bigger problem.

We’re supposed to be pleasant.
I’ve been called in to HR at previous jobs because people thought I didn’t like them, or that I sounded condescending. That’s just how my face and voice are.

Some autistic men, particularly white men, get away with it. They sound like “experts,” not shrill harridans.

The data we have (from @VividSeats) is truly incredible. In every county, we have a record of the share of concert/etc ticket sales that fall into each genre in 2015/19. Here's that map (with each county scaled for population). Cities like rap/hip hop. Rural areas like country.
The music genre that most correlates with Republican vote share is, as you might expect, country music. A preference for "New Age" music (whatever that is) and Rock are also "red". Rap, Hip Hop & R&B, as mentioned, are "blue" music—as is liking alternative artists or Latin music.

- 50% of registered voters support impeaching POTUS. 39% oppose. !! +11 is up from -12 in July. !!
- 36% of Indies and 11% of Reps support impeachment

- 51% of RVs support impeachment AND removal from office, 39% oppose
- 67% of registered voters say that “abuse of power” warrants removal from office
- 68% of RVs say the same about obstruction of justice
- 71% of RVs say that perjury warrants removal
- 59% of registered voters say they believe it is illegal for the president “to threaten withholding foreign aid to a country if that country refuses to take action that benefits the president”
- 69% of RVs say it would be inappropriate for a president to do this

I would like to hear from you. I'm planning to apply to #DFP and would like client's knowledge of the process/related issues.
2/ I've called CILT, visited the website, and have #TheDirectFunding information application, but nothing quite compares to #livedexperience.
I don't have a terminal condition or quadri/paraplegia, and am not an amputee.
3/ When researching The Direct Funding Program for people with #Disabilities, the above conditions are what I encounter. I do meet the DFP criteria, I believe: i.e. need help w/transferring, grooming, dressing, item 7 of eligibility criteria.

Starting April 20th, all people with #Disabilities who are applying for Social Security benefits have a whole new bureaucratic layer to wade through. /2

Application (2-4 months)
State Disability bureau (3-6 months)
SSA Hearing office (12-20 months)
And that doesn’t even count the Appeals Council /3

Thank you to the President for the #TrumpAddress tonight. I'm quite serious. Unlike him, I can see the writing on the wall.

I've been knee deep in the racist origins of our immigration policy for quite some time and seen how they clothe bigotry with easier to swallow terms.
Terms like "border security," "criminal alien," "illegal alien" and coopted terms like "migrant," "chain migration" and "national security."

So why would I thank him?
Because - simply - it's nothing new. It's the same old tired alarm, played on the world's most annoying siren. "We must stop the invasion!"
