In 1906, economist Vilfredo Pareto discovered what became the “Pareto principle,” or the 80-20 rule, when he noticed that 20% of the people owned 80% of the land in Italy— ...

...a phenomenon that he found just as natural as the fact that 20% of the peapods in his garden produced 80% of the peas.

Leaders are readers!

When we see this quote, what comes to mind? Books?

Effective, great and intuitive leaders read other things in addition to books, which sets them apart from others.

1. Leaders are readers of their situation.

In all kinds of circumstances, leaders pick up on details that might elude others.

They don't need to sift through stats, read reports, or examine a balance sheet. They know the situation before they have all the facts.

What? You mean... you mean... that software lives on beyond the deployment? Beyond the first few minutes/hours/days? Until you retire it? #sarcasm

I think we need a new phrase:

"Your code is for life, not just for deployment"

cf "A dog is for life, not just for Christmas"
I love @mipsytipsy talking truth. She's one of the few who simply nails it almost every time.

Too many devs fail to think about the effects of their code over any term other than the deployment and a bit after.

Maybe because their salary doesn't depend on quality over time?
If devs were paid a bonus based upon the amount of technical debt they created - the less they created, the better their bonus - would the world be a better place?

Because maybe that should be a thing we consider.

Happy first birthday @jenkinsxio, the CI/CD solution for cloud native!

It's been just over a year since the first git commits to the jx repo.
In just 12 month, Jenkins X progress has been breathtaking, so here's a tweet for each month celebrating just that (with cake! 🎂)
🍰 Firstly, Jenkins X is the brainchild of @jstrachan of @CloudBees, who also built popular OSS such as @ApacheGroovy, Camel, etc, with enduring OSS communities around them. With that experience, James simply gets developers and what they want, need and care about.
Developers WANT to ship code fast.

Developers NEED to use best practices so everything doesn't fall over in a big fat heap.

Developers CARE ABOUT what they are building; the code, the quirks: (it makes one-size-fits-all tools hard to build).

🍰@jenkinsxio gets all of this.
