I started part time at YC over 5 years ago and have now seen about 1000 YC companies. The thing that never ceases to amaze me is the success that comes from the companies that figure out how to stay lean and stay alive over the course of years.
What disappoints me more than anything are the companies that think burn = progress and then flame out in 1.5-2 years.
I don’t think investors help companies by telling them to ramp burn pre-product market fit. I often think there would be more successful startups if the startup community (founders and investors) was willing to be more patient.
