A lot of misconceptions about being a solo founder, here are some of my thoughts:
Team communication is better without a co-founder. Not having a co-founder means that there’s less room for miscommunication with the team as co-founders are often not on the same page.
Investors WILL invest in you. 🤑 Case in point: @podiadotcom raised $3m. @ycombinator perpetuated this idea that “every startup needs a co-founder” to be successful, but while this might be true for co’s going through YC, it’s simply not true for the greater startup ecosystem.
As a solo founder, you’re not some sort of loner who can’t find others to work with you. You have an idea that you have to see through and not having a co-founder isn’t going to stop you. 💪
Not having a co-founder doesn’t mean that you’re not a good teammate or collaborator. Being a solo founder means you have to collaborate MORE to be successful. 💬
You’re not a dictator. I listen to my team more than I did when I had co-founders. Instead of going to my co-founders and subverting my team, I go directly to my team.
Being a solo founder isn’t a strike against you. You’re more motivated than ever as everything at the end of the day is on your shoulders. Nobody else to point the finger at.
You should always do what’s best for you: go solo or find co-founders. There’s no wrong choice. Only what’s right for you. This negative connotation needs to end.
