The #DPRK Multi Indcator Cluster Survey #MICS for 2017 by @UNICEF is out. 8500 Households in all 9 provinces including #Jagangprovince (normally closed to #NGOs) and #Pyongyang with 24 hour notification period prior to survey. uni.cf/2IjxIed #NorthKorea

Urban (61%) and Rural (39%) households. Validation by forced re-interviews on one randomly selected household per cluster. Carried out with #DPRK Central Bureau of Statistics. Numbers are credible and match closely with other surveys (at least for childhood mortality rates)

98.2 % with TV
30.3 % with refrigerator (19.4% rural)
63% have electric rice cooker (51% rural)
15.5% havewashing machine
75.5% have CD player (68.4% rural)

Ryanggang Province is poorest with 63% of the population in lowest 20% by wealth
Pyongyang with 86% of the population in highest 40% by wealth

99.7% exposed to newspaper/radio/TV at least once per week

Under-5 Mortality Rate went from 20 to 21 (last two surveys) to 15/1000 births (#SDG 3.2.1 target is 25, #ROK is 3)
Neonatal Mortality Rate went from 10 to 11 (previous surveys) to 9 (#SDG 3.2.2 target is 12, #ROK 2)

99.5% #antenatal care with 88% getting blood pressure check and urine and blood samples checked. 92% delivered in public facility, 99.5 attended by doctor/#midwife. 13% #C-section rate (@WHO recommended rate is 10-15%)

60% (46% in rural) of children with fever received acetaminophen or ibuprofen, 40% (36% rural) received some sort of antibiotics.

For children<5:

Underweight (acute and chronic malnutrition) 11.1% National, Ryanggang, highest,18.8%, PY 5.7% lowest

Stunting (chronic malnutrition) 19.1% + severe stunting 4.8% = 23.9%. Rural 30.9% Rynaggang 42.3%

Wasting (acute malnutrition) 3%, Ryanggang 5.3%, PY 1.8%.
