Breaking: Oregon Federal Judge Micheal Simon grants @ACLU_OR temporary restraining order against @ICEgov, allowing 121 immigrant detainees in a Sheridan prison immediate access to legal counsel.
Details: For the next 28 days, the feds shall provide lawyers (specifically @lawlab) with access to at least 2 of the prison’s attorney visitation rooms for a minimum of 6 hrs per day (including weekends) to perform ‘know your rights’ trainings and individualized interviews.
Feds should install 4 telephone lines in prison capable of providing free direct calls to legal providers. Detainees allowed phone access between 8 am-8 pm. Feds should provide timely advanced notice.
Feds shall not proceed with asylum hearings or deportation proceedings until the detainee can access a ‘know your rights’ training or a mtg with lawyer. And, in order to prevent evasion, ICE may not transfer detainees outside of Oregon.
Judge Simon will finalize the order by 11 am. Both parties will return to this court for a check-in next Monday.
Important follow: Lawyer with @ICEgov said the detains WERE going to have a 'know your rights' legal training with volunteer lawyers last week, but the #OccupyICE protest kept them from holding it. Those volunteer lawyers say that's a lie.

Here’s a photo of one of the 121 men detained at Sheridan, Luis Javier Sanchez Gonzalez. His two children and their mother crossed the border with him, but they aren’t being detained. In the past 26 days, he’s been allowed one 3-minute phone call w/ them.
