Thread: My friend Ahmed Abdel-Fattah, a paediatrician in Egypt, was offered a place at Harvard a few months back, to do a Masters of Public Health. HARVARD! Not only that but he's a presidential scholar, meaning the president of Harvard uni offered him a full scholarship.
Dr Abdel-Fattah applied for his Visa almost two months ago. Still no word. He has followed up numerous times and is always told the same thing. He has already organized everything, paid for his flights, told the hospital where he works at etc. Still no Visa.
I've known Ahmed for 7 years. He has worked hard and studied hard. He genuinely cares for the children he works with and their families. He is trying to do this course to improve things at the hospital in Cairo where he works. He is an actual do-gooder.
Ahmed has already been to the US as a student. In that time he did nothing wrong (except, imho, dislike NYC). He didn't break any laws. Engage in any suspicious behaviour. Nothing wrong. Ahmed's flight leaves on July 1st. Less than a week. Still no Visa.
I don't have a big profile. But if you can find it in your heart to RT this as much as you can in the hope that some immigration official will see it and do something to help my friend I would really appreciate it. Or give me any advice to #helpahmedgethisvisa
Ahmed was required to pay for his flights and his @Harvard check-in and both are non-refundable. He put his whole life on hold for this. He is leaving behind a fiance. His application is still undergoing "mandatory administrative processing". Don't know why.
I know there are a lot of issues going on with US immigration but come on! Harvard uni! Presidential scholar! Paediatrician! Helps kids! Is nice! Likes Donuts! Can quote The Simpsons! Does English better than people I went to school with in Sydney. #helpahmedgethisvisa
