Every tactic invented by @SenateDems has then been adopted by @SenateGOP —blockade, filibuster,#TheReidRule, majority vote confirmations. That which gets used by one side gets used by the other. Pretty simple history but folks like to tell themselves stories to get outraged.

From one of military buddies: "A couple points to consider about the Chang'i 4 landing. One, China's space program is controlled by the Party and by their military. There is no civilian aspect to it.
Second, the southern and norther poles of the moon are critical for a number of reasons. One is that there is water there in the form of ice in the permanent shadow of deep craters. This water will be important for building permanent bases on the moon.
Third, the poles are important military positions because there are places at the poles that can always look down on the earth with sensors and weapons. China's landing at the southern pole at the Aiken Basin is a key military strategic achievement.

Stipulate right at the start that I am not mad at @benjaminwittes over judicial confirmations. He is going in @TheAtlantic for the safe, respectable "both sides" position, though, and deserves to be dinged for that. Personally, I tend toward the conservative side...<thread>
2...with respect to judicial philosophy -- though conservatism to me means giving due respect to legislative history (as, say, Scalia did not) and recognizing the practical necessity of Chevron deference to agency judgement (as Scalia did but Kavanaugh does not).
3. Kennedy, a judicial supremacist, drove me nuts. But politicians tend not to get this far into the weeds. I agree with @benjaminwittes that many of them have gotten way too keen on putting judges on the bench who will ratify specific policy choices or try to remake society.
