I created this during the Christmas season after the historic election of 2018.
This was a year and a half ago and it's still the only thing many dimms have
The "popular vote"
1. This time of the year, as we eat, drink, and socialize among family and friends, it's inevitable politics will come up. Those of us with politically polar opposites in our sphere and still talking, a refresher in case it comes up. It will come up.
Hillary won the popular vote
2. She won by over 2.5 million votes (correct them, 2.8 actually. Gift it to them, show our sensible sane demeanor. We don't argue facts)
It was stolen. She is the rightful president. yada yada ya
3. Yes of course we can interject fraudulent votes and such, and it's a good argument. Unproven though and tough to sell to closed minded. Especially their side fighting tooth and nail, against proper fraud protections. I digress.
4. What we know "officially"
Clinton total vote count...65,844,610
Trump total vote count....62,979,636
Advantage Clinton............2,864,974
5. Let's do this...
Clinton Calif vote total......8,753,788
Trump Calif vote total.......4,483,810
Advantage Clinton............4,269,978
Clinton's 4.2 + popular vote count in Calif is impressive but…
6. if compared to the country's popular vote, it loses all it's luster. Loses its "shiny thing"
Trump less Calif total......58,495,826
Clinton less Calif total.....57,090,822
Advantage Trump.............1,405,014
7. Since Calif's total pretty much gives Clinton that 2.5 million + excess votes aka popular vote, so...
what if we simply take the state of Cali from both candidates. Take it away, it is that state and that state alone, accountable for the popular vote count they wish to push.
8. Trump wins the country's popular vote by over 1.4 million votes
Trump wins the popular vote of 49 states total by 1,405,014 over Clinton.
As a visual bonus…
9. Trump still wins the electoral college at 304 (officially I guess, thought it was 307) but...
without Calif's 55 electoral votes, Clinton electoral count goes from 227 to 172 electoral votes.

10. Are we to conclude this is what our misguided, ill informed family and friends are telling us? They are fine with one state alone electing our president. That's their idea of democracy?

Now that the holiday season is upon us, I think it's time to reflect on an interesting Jewish custom called Nittel Nacht. What is Nittel Nacht, you ask? It's basically a Jewish Christmas celebration. WHAAAAAA
So, in the 16th/17th century, Nittel Nacht was a Jewish celebration that took place on Christmas Eve. You threw huge loud parties, played chess & card games, and enjoyed food and drink. Pretty typical holiday party, really.
But there were also a few rather odder Nittel Nacht traditions. Like, you weren't allowed to study Torah on Nittel Nacht. Or have sex. Oh, and everyone ate loads and loads of garlic.

An apology has been demanded from Boris Johnson for having mocked a religious custom, namely the wearing of the full-face veil in Islam.

It is obvious that those demanding the apology must believe that the mocking of this religious custom is wrong.

This is ridiculous.
When considering a thing said, or a thing done, and whether it is wrong, we must embark on a course of moral induction.

This is how we decide why something is wrong, and if it is at all.

It isn't sufficient to merely declare that the thing said or done is "offensive".
At one time or another, perhaps more recently than permits comfort, the prospect of interracial or same-sex coupling would have been greatly offensive to a great many people.

This is a dead end.

Offence taken cannot be the criterion by which we judge actions or expressions.
