This, yeah. "Writing" is not one thing. Every time you're writing, you're trying to do dozens of things at once—constructing a narrative, developing characters, organizing ideas, creating tension, composing prose, tweaking jokes, connecting thematic arcs, etc.
It's basically impossible to do all those things at once. Even on a good day, you're lucky to get one of them right. A well-written piece of literature is going to require multiple passes, and you probably won't get anything done as a writer until you accept that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
And honestly, the most satisfying reads are the ones with "layers" to them, right? Think about each draft as adding another layer.
All of this, by the way, is equally true of writing nonfiction, which is what I'm supposed to be doing right now instead of wasting time on the Tweetter (look for my nonfic debut, ELISHA AND THE MURDER-BEARS (AND OTHER STRANGE BIBLE STORIES) in 2019!).
...the only difference is that the "multiple things" you're doing are slightly different.

Anyway, I should go write more thoroughly-sourced butt jokes now.
