Dear Martin was a #ProjectLITBookClub 2017-18 selection and I have yet to meet a student who doesn't wild out over this book. My copies are continually checked out/on the "extended borrow" aka "missing".
Nic came to Montbello for a little over two hours, and changed lives. She hugged and signed books, took selfies, read the first chapter of her book, and breathed life into our book starved community.

Happy Saturday! Cleaning the chicken coop, then doing some writing today. Last week, a 10th grader checked out Diary of a Wimpy Kid because that's the last book he remembered reading. Another student (who wasn't checking anything out) tried to clown him about it.
We got over that, but I'm noticing more and more the power students have over eachother (with regard to reading culture).
I know we think (and talk, and write) about the fact that telling Ss they aren't reading "at level", then giving them something to read that's "rigorous" and perhaps inaccessible, then evaluating/judging them on their ability to perform a tasks isn't the best formula.

Lately, I've been talking with @nenagerman and others about the role of the anti- racist educator in spaces serving predominantly white children vs. spaces with children of color.
Some thoughts: systems and structures predominantly serving children of color are often environments that perpetuate narratives of subordination and white suburban supremacy.

#Thread Went to Vizhinjam coast to meet the fishermen who took part in rescue mission in #KeralaFloods . We were filled with positive energy and happiness hearing their experiences (1/n)
We dedicated almost 2 pages for celebrating their mission.On Thursday 8.10 pm Fr.Justin Judin,vicar of Vizhinjam church announced the requirement for boats through public announcement system. In 20 minutes almost 50 boats and 100 fishermen were assembled. Military like formation!
Just see the Engine fan of a fishing boat which participated in the #KeralaFloods rescue mission. Most of the boats are damaged and they won't be able to go to sea for a while. I was blown away by their sacrifice (3/n)

However, I will not allow him to create a wrong, false and mischievous impression about the reasons for my decision to exit the All Progressives Congress (APC) and present his prejudice as facts for public consumption.

The oldest memory I have of using fountain pens goes back to std. 5 in school. Till std. 4, we were made to use pencils and I absolutely hated using them because you needed to press hard on the paper for the writing to be fairly dark and legible.
So imagine my joy when we were finally allowed to use pens in school! My mother had bought me and my cousin some beautiful fountain pens on her trip to Mumbai in the summer vacations.
