This continues to be the most shocking thing. @harrydavies broke this in @guardian back in December 2015. Here's a question you may not want to answer. If @facebook had taken proper action then, would Trump have been elected? Would Brexit have happened?

Go ahead, play alternative histories. Because Elizabeth Denham & ICO issued that maximum fine for a reason. Facebook could have - and should have - tried to clean up this toxic mess far far earlier than they did..
And total vindication for @profcarroll who with his lawyer @ravinaik has been battling Cambridge Analytica on behalf of 240 million US voters. It's because of his case that the ICO is bringing first criminal proceedings against CA. 🎇🎇🎇

NEW: Cambridge Analytica said US voter @profcarroll had no more right to know what data the company held on him than "a Taliban sitting in a cave". Today, it pleads guilty in case brought by Britain's ICO. This is a big deal. US citizens! You have..drum roll..rights to your data!
This has been a long haul for @profcarroll. We first wrote about his battle to get this data here. Today, Cambridge Analytica finally concede that he had a right to this data. Next question: will he actually get it?

Here's the thing about inclusiveness ~ the theme of this year's #IDPD2018. I can only speak for here in the Uk but my husband has a lifelong cognitive processing disorder, a learning disability; Asperger's...I don't like to reduce him to a word but I will for these purposes...
He is permanently excluded from many aspects of society, both by his disability & by the fact that there is very little support for adult- diagnosed Asperger's sufferers; which need not entail nearly as much suffering as it does. He has tried to work many times. He always tries..
So hard & pits every ounce of his energy into it, often to his own detriment. He always fails, partly because others don't understand or can't cope, or because he has been sent to an unsuitable job by the job centre & so has been set up to fail from before he even starts..

This all started because the #MetPolice & #LBRUT couldn't do their day jobs properly & decided to take the law into their own hands. It started as a small cover up 12 years ago but has turned into British State Persecution.

My company was raided. It should have been a straightforward matter. But the #MetPolice & #LBRUT forgot to seize my computer & came back to do a 2nd raid. The search warrant didn't permit a second entry, however, #LBRUT entered unlawfully

Complaints were then made to my MP #VinceCable. He liaised with the #Metpolice & #LBRUT. And then weeks later, the search warrant was completely changed & was passed off as the search warrant executed on the day of the raids.

 Many news sites refer to Badwan as either a protestor or a demonstrator who was shot and killed by the #IDF. The photo on the left, from the DailyMail, states Badwan is a protestor. The photo on the right from CGTN states Badwan is a protestor as well.

 The problem is Badwan wasn’t there to protest in the way most people think. This video was taken Friday afternoon at the Karni crossing where Palestinians were clashing w/ #IDF soldiers. At the end, you can see Badwan being evacuated after getting shot by the #IDF.

One of the things I find frustrating about software design blogs/books/talks is when they repeat received wisdom about software design without questioning whether it really makes sense anymore. I mean, it might still make sense...but it really might not.
