the continued silence from @DemSocialists national leadership on the egregious mishandling of the A12 victims' fund is shameful.

itsgoingdown.org/almost-one-yea…
when i spoke to our national director three weeks ago, she'd only recently been made aware that not a single cent of this fund had been disbursed to victims. she both blamed staff for not updating her and insisted all of leadership was "being kept apprised of the situation."
what an incredible luxury they have! to be able to forget their mistake! the victims waiting for that money have no such luxury.
people in my community, people i care about, live with the compounded trauma of mounting medical debt from injuries sustained fighting fascism.
and while it's nothing compared to the physical & emotional trauma survivors face every day, it may be more meaningful to our national leadership to point out that this affects our ability to organize in our communities. there will be no new dues-paying members here.
big chapters up north are celebrating electoral wins, pulling in huge numbers of new members... that's fine & good but you aren't gonna build shit in virginia because people's strongest association with the name here is how badly we hurt them.
people are hurt. they are angry. and rightfully so. i have been accosted by strangers on the street, in chapter meetings, and at actions IN SEVERAL STATES who want to know why this fund wasn't handled better. i have no choice but to live with your mistake.
as the co-chair of the chapter in the city whose name is on the failed fund, i understand why people want to vent their anger at me. i accept it. i hear it. i will continue to try to convey it to anyone who will hear it. because i'm frustrated, too.
every member of national leadership who voted to hand the funds over to the NCF without a solid plan in place for doing this correctly should come here & personally apologize to survivors.
you can't unfuck this situation now, but you certainly don't get to wash your hands of it.
i guess it's easy to feel no responsibility to survivors when you've never met them. anarchists & punks & students & single moms. a young couple who just got married. good people. brave people. people who deserve better than the absolute fucking disdain you've shown for them.
maybe it's easy to forget who you're hurting when you're sitting in your office in nyc. we have to hear it. we have to answer for it. they aren't wrong. we let them down. unfortunately you’re not here. you’re not sitting shame faced in a room full of people you’ve let down. i am.
i will not hear another detached, passive aggressive excuse for why more wasn't done. apologize. explain. tell us what you've learned. how you'll handle it differently in the future. tell us why we should trust you with a GODDAMN DIME.
and apologize. to. the. victims.
it won't change the material reality or undo the harm that’s already been done but that’s not the point of an apology. if deflection of blame is more important to national than the actual suffering of people injured in a terror attack, then i don't know what the fuck we’re doing.
we are trying like hell to make things right in our community. when will anyone from @DemSocialists national leadership step up and do the same?
