So in when the IMF told Haiti to remove fuel subsidies earlier this year, the government decided to wait, and announce the 40% increase in fuel prices ten minutes into the Brazil-Belgium game, while the entire country was distracted
Officials calculated that when Brazil won the game, Haitians would be too busy celebrating the victory to riot in protest against the price increase
There was just one problem with that plan.
After Brazil lost to Belgium, Haitians riots for days, doing huge, costly damage. Politicians lost confidence in the judgment of the prime minister, leading to his resignation today. miamiherald.com/news/nation-wo…
