This thread is part 2 on ‘Ramanuja is history’, detailing the time period of Ramanuja in Karnataka and the Muslim ruler in N India in the corresponding period. jayasreesaranathan.blogspot.com/2018/07/ramanu… Ramanuja is a history -2 (The Muslim king at the time of Ramanuja)
Yatiraja Vaibhava written by Vaduga Nambi, the disciple and personal assistant of Ramanuja says that Ramanuja found the murthy of Melkote in the house of Dilleesha’s daughter. She came after Him to Melkote and ‘disappeared’ into Him (God)
Epigraphic evidences at Melkote & Thondanur show the names of Ramanuja-disciples found in Tamil Vasihnavite texts. This is proof that texts like 6000 Padi had recorded only historical facts and not imaginary accounts.
Close proximity of Melkote to Thonadanur shows no invasion had happened after Ramanuja entered Thondanur. It can’t happen without the knowledge of people living there. So the loot had happened before Ramanuja’s entry.
When did Ramanuja enter Karnataka / Thondanur? Epigraphic proof of Ramanuja’s penance at Nagamangala.
The actual date of Ramanuja’s penance at Nagamangala in Gregorian calendar was 19th July 1078 CE. That was the year he left Srirangam.
The route taken by Ramanuja from Srirangam to Thondanur
Ramanuja entered Melkote in search of the Murthy 20 years after he entered Thondanur (i.e., after he left Srirangam). Udayavar Niyamanappdi – the manual at the temple signed by Ramanuja is the proof .
This date in Gregorian calendar was 14th January 1099 CE. This date in traditional calendar is celebrated every year as a Utsav in Melkote temple to commemorate the entry of Ramanuja into Melkote and the discovery of Moolavar Murthy.
1099 CE was the year Ebrāhīm, a descendant of Mahmud Ghazni died after ruling for 40 years. There was change of the ruler at the capital Gazna. Their locations of power in N India must have been on a subdued mood on this year. It seems Ramanuja had taken advantage of this.
Ramanuja’s trip to Delhi happened at a time when most of them were expected to have gone to Ghazni or been lax in dealing with an old ascetic asking for just one idol from the heaps they have collected over the blood of many and by breaking temples.
When Ramanuja went and asked for just one idol, the ruler of Delhi did not mind. According to 6000 Padi, he was surprised to see an aged ascetic coming to see him asking for the murthy. He just allowed him to pick it out from the piles he had collected.
This casual attitude could also be attributed to an important reason. If the idol was looted by that ruler himself, he wouldn't have given it back. If looted by somebody else & brought to him, he wouldn't mind giving one piece of it. .
This logic + the prospect of the destruction at Melkote having happened some time before Ramanuja’s presence there, takes us back in time to mid-11th century CE. Ghazni's man had come to Melkote and went away incognito. Who is it? In next part jayasreesaranathan.blogspot.com/2018/07/ramanu…
Part 1 on this thread on Ramanuja's life can be read in this thread It focuses on doubts raised in the life of Ramanujacharya and proves why they are wrong.
