Just had an interesting convo with a friend who lurks here. One thing I'm taking away from the Haberman thing is that Twitter is now a healthier place if we just instantly block people who are going out of their way to be rude. /1
I don't mean trolling; I don't mean snark or disagreement. I mean the people who think they have a right a right to fire off any venting comment at any time, and then not be kicked out for doing it. I think a lot of us have been far too patient with these anger junkies. /2
I have said, for years, that experts and professionals should engage the public, and share what we know and what we think. But that engagement is not on any random's terms. It's on our terms. I always hated blocking and rarely did it. Now I think we need a rope line. /3
And this isn't aimed at Trumpers. I'm tired of getting a bunch of yahoos piling in on me, for example, every time I make it clear that I don't like Hillary Clinton. I'm not your therapist, and I'm not a dart board for your anger. Take your whining somewhere else. /4
If you want my views on things, great, I'll give them to you. (You can usually save us both time by Googling my articles, first, but okay.) But if you don't like what I'm saying here: Don't follow me. I'm not obligated to listen to you - and vice versa. /5
I'm not a public utility. You don't have a right to have me discuss what you happen to like or be interested in. You do not have a right to be a jerk and remain in my TL. I believe in dress codes, both in real life and on Twitter. No shoes, no sense, no service. /6x
