What my mother taught me...

Be a decent human being.
Treat others with dignity & respect.
Know your ethics & principles and stand by them
Everyone has a right to their opinion and view
Always seek out a point of empathy for others
Always be civil (see dignity & respect)
And don’t LIE.

If you live by those standards, you will be doing your part to make the world will be a better place.
If you have to LIE, that is a sign that you don’t really believe in the strength and validity of your own values and principles, and feel you have to manipulate the truth, instead of counting on your own beliefs.
That’s what I learned from my mother...who was a Marxist and an atheist.
Enough for people to condemn her.

Our family has a list of movies we watch every Christmas season.
Harvey, and The Bishop’s Wife.

Harvey is a film with Jimmy Stewart and an invisible rabbit.
The Bishops Wife is a deeply religious film with Cary Grant playing an angei at Christmastime
I loved them both as a child
...and passed that love onto our kids.
I was thinking about them last night, as I watched my kids watching.
What was it about them? What was it about even White Christmas???
Is it because they are about the post WWII world, about members of “the greatest generation?”
And then one of the last lines of The Bishop’s Wife was spoken.

One of the characters is an atheist, like myself, who is guided back to church by the angel (a side story), but he says at the end...
“This world could use a bit more kindness and tolerance”...

...of the GOP, the party of Big Business. They went after this base. And they went after them with the superiority, contempt and all the assumptions that come with tremendous privilige, that they could CONTROL this base.
The same assumption that the ruling aristocracy has always held about the working class, that they are stupid, uneducated and easily controlled.

I keep ruminating about Bourdain and power of my response, and the responses I see everywhere.
I don’t need to write another eulogy, I have RT many good ones already.
I don’t want to minimize in any way, who he was, but I do want to talk about what he represented...
...and perhaps what is entwined in our response.
For 20 yrs this man celebrated diversity and world culture. He didn’t show us elite, expensive restaurants, frequented by the elire, wealthy class that so many look at with envy and aspire to live as they do...
...instead he pearched on plastic stools, sat on bamboo mats in small villages, people’s homes, tiny restaurants around the world. Areas of the world we rarely see and are almost never celebrated.
He celebrated world culture, diversity, open borders and open minds...

Lost my mom today. She was 88. I get my politics from her. Her father & her uncle were influential Democrats in Illinois long ago. More than anything she believed that no matter how fortunate a person is they have a responsibility to vote their conscience, not their pocketbook.
Thank you so much everyone, for the kindness. Sometimes the Twitterverse is a pretty nice place.
One last thing mom taught me as a little boy, demanded of me, was that I treat every human being, regardless of race or nationality, with respect, dignity, & decency. I try.
Unless, of course, they were right-wing racists. She got pretty worked up about those people.

I am half way through Omarosa's book #Unhinged. I think there have been some insights but as expected, there are far too many points where it is clear that she should have known better. I am entering the 2nd half of the book and will report back but so far:

1) Omarosa states
that she was campaigning for Hillary through a Ready for Hillary PAC outreach called Hillary for America started at Howard University (where she completed her masters) but that someone on Hillary's team dropped the ball.

This left a bad taste in Omarosa's mouth and she switched
to Trump because he asked her and because her efforts were supported with actual follow up.

2) Omarosa didn't think Trump would actually win.

3) Omarosa felt that Trump's woman problem was similar to President Clinton's and that it was typical of male politicians behaving

It is no surprise Twitter targets accounts for “wrong think” or as we on the #Right like to call it “free-think” this is because of two events which are now totally and utterly inextricably linked, #Brexit and #Trump and the Establishment have been rocked to the core. 2/15
