Our family has a list of movies we watch every Christmas season.
Harvey, and The Bishop’s Wife.

Harvey is a film with Jimmy Stewart and an invisible rabbit.
The Bishops Wife is a deeply religious film with Cary Grant playing an angei at Christmastime
I loved them both as a child
...and passed that love onto our kids.
I was thinking about them last night, as I watched my kids watching.
What was it about them? What was it about even White Christmas???
Is it because they are about the post WWII world, about members of “the greatest generation?”
And then one of the last lines of The Bishop’s Wife was spoken.

One of the characters is an atheist, like myself, who is guided back to church by the angel (a side story), but he says at the end...
“This world could use a bit more kindness and tolerance”...
And then it became quite obvious.
Harvey is about a man with an invisible friend, whom those around him gradualy come to accept and find tolerance for, through the kindness and tolerance of the Jimmy Stewart character...
Post Wold War II movies are ull of such themes.
Humanity had been dealt a serious blow, and people had to dig deep and be willing to sacrifice, even their lives, for the greater good.
They saw exactly, in real time, what we risk, when we lose kindness, tolerance, respect, decency
I believe we stand in a similar moment.
The Evangelical community says that God has given us an imperfect messenger in Trump.

As an atheist, I am wondering something similar.
Is Trump, an imperfect messenger to challenge us all to find our integrity, our principles, our character.
What do we believe in? What do we stand for?

He has certainly started a conversation. Americans are now constantly discussing integrity and honesty. Do lies matter?
Does kindness matter? Decency?

Do we overlook insults and ugly behavior, if they line our pockets?

Perhaps Trump is showing us the darkness and WE have to decide if we want to live in that darkness, or reject it for the light.
I was watching something the other day, on Trump’s lies.
He has lied over 6000 times this year, to us, the American people, and it is up by something crazy, like 38% in past couple of months.

Does honesty matter anymore. Clearly not to him, but does it matter to us??
Our daughter is finishing her college portfolio and she was telling me that the schools have to be very careful, because parents are hiring artists to create their childrens art work.

Trump has nothing to do with that, except that he sees that kind of behavior and understands it
I don’t really know religion as well as I would like, but if we accept the devil, as metaphor, and the temptations he offers, isn’t that what we face?
What price for our souls?
