Harvey, and The Bishop’s Wife.
Harvey is a film with Jimmy Stewart and an invisible rabbit.
The Bishops Wife is a deeply religious film with Cary Grant playing an angei at Christmastime
I loved them both as a child
I was thinking about them last night, as I watched my kids watching.
What was it about them? What was it about even White Christmas???
Is it because they are about the post WWII world, about members of “the greatest generation?”
One of the characters is an atheist, like myself, who is guided back to church by the angel (a side story), but he says at the end...
“This world could use a bit more kindness and tolerance”...
Harvey is about a man with an invisible friend, whom those around him gradualy come to accept and find tolerance for, through the kindness and tolerance of the Jimmy Stewart character...
Humanity had been dealt a serious blow, and people had to dig deep and be willing to sacrifice, even their lives, for the greater good.
They saw exactly, in real time, what we risk, when we lose kindness, tolerance, respect, decency
The Evangelical community says that God has given us an imperfect messenger in Trump.
As an atheist, I am wondering something similar.
What do we believe in? What do we stand for?
He has certainly started a conversation. Americans are now constantly discussing integrity and honesty. Do lies matter?
Do we overlook insults and ugly behavior, if they line our pockets?
Perhaps Trump is showing us the darkness and WE have to decide if we want to live in that darkness, or reject it for the light.
He has lied over 6000 times this year, to us, the American people, and it is up by something crazy, like 38% in past couple of months.
Does honesty matter anymore. Clearly not to him, but does it matter to us??
Trump has nothing to do with that, except that he sees that kind of behavior and understands it
What price for our souls?
