(1 of 13) Men do dangerous jobs – and always have – which partly explains the “wage gap” (the Left’s feminization wedge that has been in use for decades).

(2 of 13) The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that, in 2015, men dominated the 20 most dangerous occupations in the United States. Logging is the most dangerous job in the U.S., followed by fishing. Mining is the 20th most dangerous profession.
(3 of 13) More men than women occupied these jobs by anywhere from 85.4 to 99.9 percent.

23 year old Jazmine Headley took a day off work to go to the Human Resources Admin offices in Brooklyn to resolve an issue with her daughter's day care vouchers.

There were no chairs available, so after 4 HOURS, Headley sat on the floor with her kids. 1/6 #NYPD #PoliceViolence
Security guards asked her to stand. There were still no empty chairs & the day care issue hadn't been resolved.

Bradley didn't stand. Security guards took her to the floor & police violently yanked her son away in an unnecessary use of #physicalforce. 2/6
Onlookers took video & yelled for police to stop, saying Bradley hadn't bothered anyone.

One officer pointed a stun gun at the crowd, then at Headley. 3/6 #HumanRightsDay

It’s #HumanRightsDay today & our liberties have never been more threatened.

Women, African Americans, Muslims, Latinos, immigrants, LGBTQ people are all under historic stress.

Today we’re focusing on the abuse faced by LGBQT migrants, because it’s horrific. #LGBTQImmigration
LGBTQ migrants face unique horrors: They’re not only escaping violence in their home countries (partners killed, family targeted, coercion into sex work, etc) but they continue to be targeted on the route to the US by other migrants & Mexican authorities.

We saw this first-hand.
We walked w/trans women around the complex where migrants were housed in Mexico City.

Men yelled at them, catcalled, whistled.

We rented buses to get them to Tijuana safely & quickly.

They were pulled over by Mexican authorities & detained for hours.

Today, as we celebrate #HumanRightsday, we took an important step in promoting international cooperation #ForMigration

I had the privilege of leading the Canadian delegation in adopting the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration. 1/7
Despite the Conservatives campaign of misinformation, it is clear that adopting the #GCM is not only the right thing to do but the smart thing to do. 2/7
Canada is a leader in welcoming and integrating immigrants thanks to a widespread understanding that when immigrants are given the tools to succeed, they help grow our economy. 3/7

In light of the Planned Parenthood/SCOTUS news and it being #HumanRightsDay, a thread on how abortion rights are human rights. 1/
It should go without saying, but bodily autonomy and human rights go hand in hand. Denying half the human population the right to bodily control is an abuse of human rights. Period. 2/
Where abortion is illegal &unsafe, women are forced to carry unwanted pregnancies to term or suffer serious health consequences & even death. 13% of maternal deaths worldwide are attributable to unsafe abortion—btwn 68,000 and 78,000 deaths annually.… 3/

The assumption that transparency equals accountability is not entirely born out by logic or experience. Sometimes, govt transparency can be fed by a sense of "we are in power!" So transparency can also be impunity
2nd, it's easy to talk transparency when most of the citizens to whom u're accountable are illiterate & u know they can't understand a word of what u say. In 2006, former Borno Gov, Ali Modu Sheriff said less than 5% of his state cld read & write so he didn't worry about Turenci
So, if we're interested in transparency with accountability, we shdn't just bloviate on social media. We also have to take advocacy for access to quality public education v seriously. Without accessible quality education, accountable democracy has limited reach

Authoritarian states want you to believe the idea of “human rights” is a Western construct. The term, yes! But from the farmers, migrants, powerless I’ve spoken to - they want it, too, but use a different vocabulary: “fairness,” “healthcare” or “opportunity.” #HumanRightsDay
On #HumanRightsDay, don’t let the authoritarians make you believe human rights is a Western, privileged concept. It is absolutely universal. Everyone wants to be treated fairly, right? What about not being a victim of corruption? That’s human rights.
The homeless American I interviewed? Shelter is connected to human rights. The Chinese farmer who told me his land was seized? Human rights. The Gazans who said to me they lacked economic opportunity and work? Human rights. #HumanRightsDay
