1. Demand for internists is climbing as insurance companies impose ever increasing rules.
2. Demand for increased patient load is increasing as corporate owners of practices seek more and more money.
3. Internists, unable to keep up with assembly line medicine and hours of....
...paperwork a night (one MD I know spent 8 hours with patients, 9 hours with paperwork a day), are dropping out. They are going to work for drug companies, insurers, private corp medical and concierge care. I know many internists. All but 2 have abandoned their practice....
,,,medical students also hearing that internal medicine is not sustainable, so they pass up. This endless pursuit of corporate profit by insurers & medical practice companies will end traditional medical care. We cannot only see specialists. Doubt anyone will do anything though.
