You’ve worked hard putting together a presentation so why limit it to the people sitting in your talk?

Here are a few tips for repurposing your talk for sharing on social media
1. Add your twitter handle on your intro slide and encourage your audience to tweet. Limiting the text on your slides will also encourage tweets. If your text isn’t tweetable then there’s too much text.

Even if people are reading it, they’re not listening to you
What’s better than big blocks of text?

Images!

Use @unsplash for a huge library of free and high quality images that don’t require distracting attribution text at the bottom of your slide
People are sometimes hesitant to tweet as they’re not sure if the presenter wants this so they err on this side of caution. So give them permission.
2. Post your slides on @OSFramework and share the link. Also hyperlink to these slides when you list your presentations in your CV.

Do you mention results from a study that you’d rather not share beyond your talk? Just delete those specific slides
3. Ask a colleague to record your presentation on a smartphone so that you can post it on @YouTube. I know, it can suck watching yourself present, but it’s a great chance to improve for next time.
YouTube videos have a disproportionately high ranking in google search. Everyone seems to be blogging and tweeting these days but not many are using video. Use this to your advantage while this lasts.
4. If you can’t record the presentation in real time, do a screencast where your go through your slides and while recording the audio of you talking. You give most of your presentations more than once so consider this additional practice.
If you’re on a Mac, screencasting can be done using the bundled QuickTime app. Super easy!
5. When sharing on Twitter, add screenshots of your four best slides to give people a preview of the full presentation. Again, you’re using images that you’ve *already* made.
It’s a waste letting your presentations languish on your hard drive, give them a second life.
