Yesterday: PhD student’s paper is accepted! Yay! But also, other PhD student’s paper is returned by the journal after nearly 6 months due to inability to get reviewers. This happened to another trainee’s paper last year as well. Anecdotally, it sounds more & more common.
Journals: Please improve your processes. Make your default review times longer. See if you get all reviews in faster if you ask for reviews within 4 weeks rather than 2. Also: invite more junior people to review. They’re often more eager to review & are up on newest methods.
Publishers: Make your websites easier to use. Don’t make people log in to say yes or no. Make keyword selection easy.

Finally did the book cull that I should have done *before* we moved, uh, six years ago. Out of all the books we read related to parenting, these are the two that influenced us most. Photo of book entitled “Becoming The Parent You Want To Be” by Laura Davis and Janis KeyserBook entitled “Feeding Your Child for Lifelong Health” by Susan B. Roberts, Ph.D., and Melvin B. Heyman, M.D., with Lisa Tracy
“Becoming The Parent You Want To Be” was ahead of its time, I think. What I loved about it is the way it presents both parents and kids as full humans, with human emotions & reactions. I have a quick temper but didn’t want to yell at my kids. I really appreciated the strategies.
I picked up “Feeding Your Child for Lifelong Health” on a bargain shelf when pregnant with kid 1. It had one key fact that influenced us: you may need to introduce a food 15-20X before they’ll take to it. So we did. There may be some luck here, too, but our kids eat *everything*.

I called on behalf of my inlaws to solve a problem re: rural internet. After I asked, "So if I understand correctly, you don’t have the authority to resolve this problem?" your rep *hung up on me*.
Please don’t bother expressing sorrow or asking me to DM you. I’m not interested in wasting any more of my time. Check your logs & train your people better.

1) Death. A woman's greatest risk of homicide is between 15 - 24. Intimate partners. It drops dramatically as you age.

2) Unplanned Pregnancy

3) Derailment of education/career goals
Men in their early 20s aren't looking to settle down, so your relationships likely won't last anyway.

A woman's early 20s pretty much sets the foundation for the rest of her life.

Utimately, you're so temporary in their lives and yet mistakes in that time window will screw you.
So if you're smart and ambitious, you'll use that time to build yourself up.

Acquire an education based on YOUR passions & talents without the distraction of fantasizing some future with a guy that will never pan out (you're temporary).

By mid 20s, you're positioned for better

Reward Risk Ratio = Average Profit Per Trade / Average Loss Per Trade

If Success Rate is 0.5 and Reward Risk 2, Then

Expectancy = 2 x 0.5 =1

For Making Profit, Expectancy Should Be Positive Number (2/n)
To Calculate Expectancy, You Need Defined System With Rules To Get Success Rate and Reward Risk. If You Have No System To Take Decisions, You Are Hanging In Thin Air and Will Never No Whether You Will Keep Making Or Loosing Money In Future (3/n)

#New PA cong. map increases D chance of winning the House majority by 4%. They only need a 6.8% generic ballot margin now (down from 7.7) to be favored.

Diff. will be closer to 10% in Nov when uncertainty from polls is ⬇️. Redraw is a very big deal.

One major reason the new PA map is such a big gain for Democrats is that it solidifies, not just tips, PA districts in Philly burbs. Also creates one additional vulnerable R district. (Easily seen in this map made by @JMilesColeman)
My forecasting model will have new PA map in the near future. This is not just a simple switch; it’s a coding redesign, restructuring of input, & drawing new geographic files. Takes a while (for me, a student).
