Let's have a chat #mepolitics.

While I was Downeast with my boys enjoying Milbridge and not being online there was a conversation about me it was interesting to read.

Rather than reply to all the tweets, I'll give you a #SundaySoapbox for #TWPSB.

Side note for those who have never run for office - super weird to read about yourself on twitter.

It's like being at your own funeral and sitting in on the after eulogy chatter by the shrimp dip.

#TWPSB
The way my head works may never be gratifying or specific in the ways @ASFried is looking for. I think it may one day work for @CollinsWatch, though I would imagine I would have much less exciting material than Susan.

I do believe it will work for Maine.

#TWPSB
I am vague with policy. It's on purpose. I have broad, general directions in which I would like to head. For example...

We should not kill our planet

We should protect the vulnerable

We should work to support small business

I could make dozens of these statements.

#TWPSB
Where I am specific, both hyper-specific and demonstrative is in how I apply these concepts to proposed law.

You'll see me do #Readthebill. It should help translate how these broad statements, many of which regularly interact, work together.

#TWPSB

I can say "we should protect the vulnerable".

I can also get more policy-specific and say "The ADA is sacred law and must be upheld at every turn"

Do you find yourself thinking "WTF does that mean?" (To that or nearly anything most folks in politics say)

Yeah, me too.

#TWPSB
There are so many variables, nuances, interactions with ideas and stances...to cover all the issues in any sort of depth is not practical. It takes a ton of time, would be thousand of pages, and very few people will read it.

So let me *show* you what I mean.

#TWPSB
When I say we need to protect the vulnerable, and apply it to the ADA, this is what I mean.

We should send people that make it past a nice-sounding title and well-crafted (perhaps even well-intentioned) words that can become law.

#TWPSB

By the way...⤴that little number passed the US House this year and was not a party-line vote.

#TWPSB
I don't talk, act, or think like other politicians because I don't see the process the same way.

We have an existing body of law that just is. A lot of it could be better. We should take what we have a continually try to improve it.

#TWPSB
I don't have a ton of grand, fixed, pre-determined goals.

I have generally guiding principles and ideas.

If 435 people show up with precise plans of how every single thing is going to happen because they have promised constituents, that's going to belly flop. Bigly.

#TWPSB
See me as a problem solver, a collaborator, a generally reasonable person who finds pain points and helps people who don't get along work together. I understand how federal law, compromises and nuance work.

That's my platform.
