Let's compare the new @Twitch layout vs the old (proposed solutions at the end):

- Video player made way smaller because Twitch don't want us to collapse the left sidebar. TERRIBLE.
- The channel tabs have been moved below the player. GREAT!
- Channel views total is gone. WHY? New, worse version of Twitch layoutOld version of Twitch layout
@Twitch - The follow and sub buttons are now on the sidebar where they will be IGNORED because theatre mode will be how people get back the screen size they've lost. TERRIBLE.
- Stream title is only seen when hovering. Unsure how I feel about this.
- The social share button is gone. WHY?
@Twitch - The community tags are gone. Does this mean Communities is finally being put out of its outrageously poorly-executed existence? Care to comment on if streamers should just stop using tags (for those who do use them, anyways) or are you just writing off a part of a feature? LOL?
@Twitch - The followed channels list in sidebar defaults as minimized, while "recommended" is default-maximized, putting it at the top. And streamers have NO control over who is recommended on their page. Even evil YouTube lets streamers disable the recommended list. WTF?
@Twitch PROPOSED SOLUTIONS:

- Move the gift/sub/follow buttons, notifications bell, and partner tickmark to the huge empty space in the top bar, as these are all small anyhow. It also makes sense as they'd be next to the bits button.
- Add channel total views to the sidebar.
(cont'd ⬇)
@Twitch MORE SOLUTIONS:

- The channel name, game, team and community tags (if you're not dropping this feature) can remain on the side bar because most of this is stated upon hover over the screen anyways, but the sidebar needs to be collapsible.
- Add social share button to sidebar.
@Twitch AND MORE SOLUTIONS:

- Give all users the ability to disable "recommended channels" from appearing on their channel page. Be at least as considerate as YT on this.

And next time, please fucking focus group actual streamers and users. I can tell AGAIN you haven't. Stop that 👩‍🏫
Also, I know, the screenshot I have of the old layout is half-screen sized. I was watching Zeke last night when the change over happened and didn't think to expand my window before screenshotting (I was doing work on the other side of my screen).
As for the Twitch product Trello, it's nice that you're being more open with your roadmap.

This thread is just about giving feedback on this experiment, as there isn't good reasoning on your Trello for a non-collapsible sidebar or forced "recommended", etc.
@Twitch More on this: On the Trello it says "tags" are coming. If that's the case, why not leave community tags included in new layout and just convert that space to the new method when it launches?
This is how big the old layout can look with collapsible sidebar, without having to use theatre mode or fullscreen.

Therefore, the incredibly important subscribe, follow, and gift sub buttons are all seen without loss to screen size.
