After a UN report about extreme poverty in 🇺🇸, the administration put out a statement calling poverty “largely over”

Internal docs show they solicited input from Census Bureau economists & the Council of Economic Advisers- then totally ignored it👇🏼

Here’s the part where their own advisors reminded them the current “economic growth and prosperity” started under the previous president👇🏼

Awkward.
Here’s the part where their own economic advisors remind them “wages haven’t really picked up, other than for supervisors” 👇🏼

Causing them to delete the line- an admission that it is indeed a fact.
Here’s the part where their own economic advisors remind them helping low-income families obtain housing has not been “our strong suit” and that Puerto Rico got “peanuts compared to what the mainland got”👇🏼🇵🇷
They ignored the US census bureau’s data on poverty in favor of the conservative Heritage Foundation’s.
Meanwhile a senior state department advisor (who was previously a food lobbyist/blogger) dismisses child poverty rates - because her sons don’t have jobs yet, and they’re doing just fine.
In conclustion: “This is the kind of tone I would expect from China or North Korea or Egypt.”

Ignoring poverty and rampant inequality won’t make it go away, it will only exacerbate it and weaken our country. It hurts our economy, and ultimately, everyone. 🇺🇸 (THREAD👆🏽)
